Doers, Talkers and Writers; Which Are You

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Having been a doer all my life, I always had a problem with talkers. You know the kind of people that I mean. They are always talking about what they’re going to do, how great they are and all the great things they are going to do with the future or have done in the past.

As a track star and later as a motorcycle street racer I always used to be able to point them out and rarely was I wrong. Every once in awhile there was a talker who could back up his talk, but it was not often. Nevertheless, some doers are also talkers.

Then there is another category they are the writers and generally they run around complaining about how things should be or could be, but they will never get off their butts to do anything. Sometimes writers are talkers, but generally they are antisocial and somewhat of loners in the positive sense of the word. Many writers are thinkers and not talkers. Sometimes writers are talkers and thus tend to be coaches, speakers and become experts in their field.

Every once in awhile you get a hard-core doer, who is extremely well spoken and also a good writer, but these people are rare. A doer who is a writer can end up doing quite a bit for themselves, community, family, country and all humanity. A doer who is a good talker and a great writer can do anything that they put their mind to.

Nothing can stop that type of individual. I therefore would advise others who possess two of the three skills to work hard to master the third. Once this is done they can write their own ticket for themselves or to change the world. Please consider this philosophical thought in 2006.

A Personal Relationship Having Jesus As Your Best Friend

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Many of us christians can remember the day and time we accepted Jesus Christ as our savior. On that day we formed a personal relationship with Jesus that changed our lives forever. I can not tell you that day. Yes I am a christian and I have a personal relationship with Jesus. My memories go back to the tender age of two. I can honestly say that I have had a best friend relationship with Jesus Christ as far back as age two. For the first three years of my life I lived in Washington, D.C. During these formative years my parents and grandparents took me to church weekly and sometimes daily. All the while they taught me all they could about the Jesus of the Holy Bible. In some miraculous way my mind saw Jesus not as an adult, but as the Divine Child Jesus. When I was three my mind related to Jesus as a three year old. When I was ten my developing intellect preferred to see Jesus as a ten year old. I knew Jesus grew up to be an adult and sacrificed Himself for our sins. It was easier for me to talk to Jesus from my soul to His soul, my heart to His heart.

This relationship was so personal that in my heart, mind, and soul I would, and still do today talk to Jesus from my heart throughout everyday. This proved to be the greatest gift I would recieve from my personal relationship with Jesus. From the age of five my mother had a form of epilepsy that caused her to bind clothsline cords into whips and strike out with severe beatings upon my brother and me. I knew this was not her but the sickness. If I hadn’t developed a best friend relationship with Jesus

I would not have been able to understand this and forgive my mother from my heart. Having this best friend relationship with Jesus has gotten me through mental depression, a physical disability, and even a sexual betrayal from my one time fiance.

If you haven’t already. Please form a personal best friend relationship with Jesus and talk to Him from your heart throughout everyday of your life. When things go wrong and people hurt you, this personal relationship with Jesus will teach you how to forgive.

Criticism

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

It is a fact that the vast majority of people are so fearful of criticism from friends and family members that they allow fear to overcome them and destroy their dreams of success and the life they truly wish to live.

Think about that for a moment. People have a stronger fear of being criticized than a stronger desire to create a business that would bring them the success that they desire, the financial rewards they deserve and the life they truly wish to live simply because they are worried about what their friends and family might say and/or think about them.

Many people are too afraid of what others might say, think or both about them and because of this they will fail to act on their true calling and will never realize their full potential of the lives and as they get older they will look back on a life of what could have been and with regret.

These so-called friends and family members who chastise their friends or family members for going after their dreams are nothing more than modern day vampires. That’s right, modern day vampires. Instead of sucking the life out of you by taking your blood, they use criticism to suck the life out of you.

The reason they criticize you is that they do not wish to see a friend or family member succeed because when you do it will just remind them of how much they are miserable and not happy with their lives because they too probably failed to act on their dreams and they do not wish to see you do what they failed to do themselves. So they want you right there with them, miserable too. Remember misery loves company.

Now don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of friends and/or family members that will try to persuade you to take a safer more convenient way of making a living out of loving and caring for you and trying to protect you from disappointment, but the difference is that they will not try to stop you.

Big difference.

If you are going after your dreams and you should, you will need to say good-bye to the modern day vampires, the dream stealers, and let them find new company to be miserable with.

One thing is for certain, when you break from the pack and start living your life, calling your shots and having the success you know you can have and the financial rewards you deserve, three things are for certain to happen.

1. You will meet many like minded individuals like yourself that you will now find yourself associating with.

2. Those friends and family members that tried to protect you but did allow you to pursue your dreams and wished you luck will still be around as well they should be because they did truly care about your happiness.

3. Those so-called friends, well, I doubt they will show up since you are now successful and leading the life of your dreams and they are not wishing to have that staring back at them. They will most likely be resentful. Sad but true.

The ones that do show up, I would be willing to bet they will say five words, I wish I had too.

Do not allow fear of criticism from others stand in your way of attaining the life that you desire and deserve. Truth of the matter is, those that criticise you are the ones that are actually afraid. They are afraid that you will succeed and remind them of their shortcomings in their life because they too probably allowed criticism from others to stop them.

Break the cycle, go after your dreams.

How Can I Believe?

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

There are many who would suggest believing in something incredible for your life is just a fantasy, a day dream and we should stick to reality.

These ideas are common misconceptions that the average individual holds true to their experience in life. It is rooted in the ignorance of what we are, and what we are connected to. When a person believes they are a separate thing in a universe of separate things, they develop the idea that anything they would desire for their lives must be “gotten” because it is separate from them.

It is only by appearance that things are separate from you. When you look through your physical eyes, your eyes tell you that you are separate from the things you are observing. If you look at a car you see the car is separate from you. If you look at another person you can see they are also separate from you. We can see how the earth, the moon and sun are separate from each other. What we lack is the understanding to see all things are actually connected.

However, it is what we can’t see with our physical eyes wherein the truth can be found. In truth, we are connected with everything and everything is connected with us. Both science and theology essentially tell us the same thing. Science says everything is energy, it can neither be created nor destroyed and is omnipresent. Theology says that everything is spirit and spirit can neither be created nor destroyed and is omnipresent.

We create our life according to our belief system. Everything we have in our life right now is a result of what we believe, so when we change our beliefs, we change our life.

If we look at our current circumstances, we fall into the false trap of thinking if I change my circumstances my life will change. This leads to much frustration. We can not change the circumstances, we must change the cause. When we go to the cause of the problem, which is our belief system and change that first, we then find a wonderful new world of purpose, possibilities and promise unfolds.

You will know you are believing and not just wishing or hoping when your thoughts, emotions and actions are all in harmony and it requires no conscious effort. Remember what it feels like to fall in love? You do not have to consciously think of the other person, they are constantly on your mind. You can feel how good it feels to be with them even when you are apart. You take action to show them you care. Truly believing feels much the same. Your thoughts feelings and actions are all in harmony.

Napoleon Hill said, “There is a difference between wishing for a thing and being ready to receive. No one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it. The state of mind must be belief, not mere hope or wish”.

The most exciting thing about believing is when we truly believe, we can expect what most people would call a miracle. Opportunities, possibilities and circumstance appear as if by magic. “JUST BELIEVE”

The Power of Why: Setting Intention-Oriented Goals

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Everyone – particularly business coaches like me - talks about goal-setting, and so it is surprising that surveys indicate 97 percent of businesspeople do not set them. Of the people who do set them, 97 percent set reactive goals, 2 percent set proactive goals and 1 percent set intention-oriented goals. Guess which ones create the biggest results?

Most people don’t set goals because they have tried before and failed. They set goals to fix today’s problems for a better morning tomorrow. They didn’t ask the question: Why do I want to achieve this goal? If they had, their goal would have been different, achievable and achieved.

A friend of mine said she wanted to lose 10 pounds. Now, there’s a goal designed for failure. I asked her why. She said so she could fit into her clothes well again. That - not losing the weight – is the goal.

You may have been taught to set SMART goals. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Trackable. These are proactive goals like growing your income by 10 percent over last year’s. Again, the question of why is left unasked and unanswered. And another goal is unfulfilled.

Let’s get to intention-oriented goals. These are the goals I want you to set; goals that are visionary, that have a purpose and which look beyond the incremental steps and say where we intend to be at some point in the future.

Instead of growing your income 10 percent, let’s discover why you want the extra money. Perhaps it would allow you to take a three-week trip to Belize, or pay for long-neglected guitar lessons, or help your daughter buy her first home. Those goals are not about the money, they are about what the money will allow you to do. These are intention-oriented goals. You may not know right now how you are going to get there but you know where you want to end up.

Now, you’re going to set up a priority system to help you achieve these goals. This priority system – a sort of “to-do” list on steroids - is based on two questions:
1. What is the best use of my time right now?
2. Will this activity help me achieve one of my goals?

Activities unrelated to your goals need to be delegated, delayed or somehow eliminated from your list. Activities which will help you achieve your goals now can be divided into “A” and “B” categories. You should set your “B” list first. Ask, “can I postpone taking action on this activity?” If the answer is no, then the activity automatically is on the “A” priority list. If the answer is yes, you must ask three more questions to determine if it becomes a “B”.

1. Is this an activity that leads to the accomplishment of a goal?

2. Is this a commitment or a promise?

3. Is this a vital, critical, life-threatening “must do”?

A “yes” to any of these questions and the item goes on the “A” list.

Finally, you rank your “As” and “Bs” 1 through 10. If you have more than 10, you need to find something else to eliminate or delegate. Now, attack the “As”.

Once you make this system a habit, your “to-do” list becomes shorter and you’ll be more effective. And you’ll be on your way to achieving your goals and not just crossing things off your list. It’s all possible, you just have to ask “why?”

Have You Taken the Time to Observe Nature?

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Have you ever taken time to observe nature? Or truly digested the unspoken wisdom it has to offer us? Fall’s appearance is somewhat graceful as it gives its grand finale before it bids adieu. Not paying attention, we didn’t notice the slight shift of colors in the oaks and maples; nor did we see the aromatic pines pregnant with their geometrical cones. In its sporadic and beautiful display of life and death, Mother Nature is a catalyst of human life.

As the days grow longer and the nights become colder, we suddenly find ourselves reflecting upon our lives. Spring’s green leaves no longer adorn and shade the earth below. Orange and black monarchs no longer flutter in the distance. And right before our eyes, wind-blown foliage gathers across our now, wilting lawns. Almost bittersweet sorrow, we catch a glimpse of deer and their young sprinting through a sleepy forest. In our gardens, yellow and orange mums cleverly hide squirrels as they scamper for fallen acorns, pecans and hazelnuts. Black birds flock together as they prepare for their long winter journey to the Southern warmth.

Watching nature’s kaleidoscope of transformations - life, suddenly becomes clear. The endless cycle of metamorphosis is a mirror image of our own selves. Nature’s Divine plan was so well thought out that we, as human beings, could find resolve in its simple constitution. Spring is an explosion of new life! Its infantile beginning brings songbirds, buzzing bees, chirping crickets, newborn babies, newborn wildlife, and a wide-awake view of nature’s inherent offspring.

Slowly, the lazy days of summer creep into our lives. Towering trees now sway from the weight of their greening foliage. Lawns are vibrant green and bustling with tiny ants, arachnids and honeybees. Ocean breezes beacon us with its tantalizing sandy and salty aroma. Water is tepid and feels so soothing as we splash and swim in hot, summer sun. Days are long and filled with light and energetic rejuvenation. Sitting quietly on a park bench, we watch kids at play, birds frolicking in birdbaths, and flowers abloom everywhere. Sunsets melt into night like fire-filled globe of molten lava.

Somehow, we missed the end of summer as nature’s methodical and oh-so-slight transition into autumn became more and more evident. Like a thief in the night, our warm breezes and green leaves have vanished. Small woodland animals act more like vultures as they frantically gather nuts, leaves and other materials for their winter haul. Suddenly, life becomes full circle. Did you see it?

You see — nature is a perfected reflection of you and me. Our spring is the beginning of our life - our virtual existence. And as we grow and mature, our summer becomes translucent. No longer green behind the ears - we’ve experienced, we’ve thrived. We’ve ripened and become the success of our own achievements. But then comes our autumn. Like a butterfly’s cocoon, we have evolved. Slowly, gently, quietly - the sands of time begin to flow more freely. Before we realize it, we’ve become older, and now wiser. Slower now, we sit and reflect upon our lives. We don’t ask about the “what ifs,” the “whys” - we’ve merely become the fruit of our labor. Time is no longer a question of, “how much,” but of essence. Our little grandchildren now flock to our sides to help us rise from our chairs. Our grown children drive us to our destinations, and suddenly - life has come full circle. Young toddlers trace the outlines of our wrinkles with their tiny fingers. They don?t see the graying hairs and slowing pace. They think “old” people are wise, gentle and sweet. Did you see it? Not paying attention, we didn’t see the slight shift of age. We didn’t notice the graceful, grand finale before we make our final passage. Take some time today and observe nature. It may just give you the answer to life you’ve been seeking.

And if it doesn’t answer your question, then perhaps it’ll make you appreciate life just a little bit more than before.

Abundance Is Yours

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Did you know that the majority of people in this world have no more than one pair of shoes? Many even go barefoot their whole lives.

Now, I’m not trying to make you feel bad (like when you were told, “Think of all the poor hungry children in China and eat your dinner.”) But, if you’re reading this, then you probably have a computer. And, I bet you also have more than one pair of shoes.

We’re blessed in our society by abundance, but we often don’t appreciate what we’ve got. And, that’s a big mistake!

Why? Because the saying that goes “The rich get richer,” is absolutely true. It’s sort of a universal law, like the law of gravity. It works like this: if you don’t feel rich, then the universe doesn’t consider you rich and therefore, according to this law, you won’t “get richer.”

The Bible says, “To those who have, it will be given.” Now maybe this seems unfair to you, but universal laws don’t always go along with our self-made rules of fairness. If you look around you and observe how things are working out there in the world, you will see the truth in this biblical passage.

What’s my point? The point is, if you want more of the things in your life that you really care about, then you must appreciate more of the things that you already have. You need to start feeling as “rich” as you really are!

This is not my rule. It’s just the way things work. When you appreciate what you have, you feel rich. When you feel rich, you attract more riches to yourself. Because, “The rich get richer.”

Why not give it a try? Look at your feet and you’ll see that abundance is yours – all you have to do is appreciate it!

Get Some Attitude!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

You’ve been looking for a job for as long as you can remember. Or you’ve written that exam more times than you can count. You can’t remember a time when you weren’t broke. And you are beginning to wonder if things will ever change for the better.

Listen up dear reader. If this is you, things can and will turn around, as I will show you shortly. I know from personal experience that you can change your life for the better, no matter how bad it has been. I have been homeless, hungry, unemployed and down-and-out. Today, this has all turned around; I am none of these things any more.

Why? To God be the glory,I got fed up, and got an attitude! An attitude that said:

• I’ve gone as far below as I will ever let myself go. From now on, it’s up, whatever hard work or sacrifice it will take.

• I am a valuable human being, with a lot to contribute to society. I will no longer seek to get, but to give of what I have.

• I am a winner, even if only in-the-making. My trials are to bring out the good in me, not to destroy or abase me. I will make the most of them, become the better for them.

I got an attitude that made me expect to succeed, expect doors to open, expect to hear a “Yes,” not a “No!”

And you know what? You get what you expect. Your expectations take on physical form and manifest as your reality. You attract what you get with your thoughts and expectations.

An attitude is the way you think or feel about someone or something.

• How do you feel about that job you’re applying for? — Scared? Apprehensive? That it will never be yours?

• What do you think of the exam you’re taking? — Hard? Impossible? That the examiners are partial?

• What do you think about money — That it’s elusive? There’s none in the country? It’s not for “people like you?” Or that it’s “evil”?

You may have been thinking and feeling the wrong way, and so attracting the wrong things. You need to critically examine your thoughts and feelings concerning the things you lack, the hurdles you face, or those dreams that have eluded you so far. Change your thoughts and feelings, your attitude towards them, and see a change in your situation. I know from personal experience, I’ve had many a turn-around since my attitude-change!

Success or failure begins in the mind. The difference is in how you think or feel about the hurdles you face. You can get whatever you want, if you will pay the price. Find out what that is and pay it. And while you’re at it, GET SOME ATTITUDE!

How to Stop Worrying- Combat Stress at its Source

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Co-authored by Neill Gibson.

Do the things you worry about keep you up at night? Do you often feel nervous and uncomfortable? If so, this burden of stress is most likely making your life miserable. Do you want to break free from stress, stop worrying and start being happy? You can end this cycle now by identifying and dealing with the underlying causes of stress.

Future Fears

Fear about future events is one of the most common causes of worrisome stress. These fears can range from trivial concerns–such as what to wear to work the next day–to global fears about how the world will survive.

“When I look back on all these worries I remember the story of the old man who said on his deathbed that he had a lot of trouble in his life, most of which had never happened.”
~Winston Churchill

Anytime you worry about something that may or may not happen at some point in time, you’re giving in to future fears. You might hear yourself saying things like:

“What if I lose my job?”
“What if she never talks to me again?”
“My son is sick, what happens next?”
“The world is so scary, what about war?”

Worries such as these can lead to restless or even sleepless nights. Sleepless nights lead to more stress, which in turn causes more worry–in other words, it’s a vicious cycle.

Past Regrets

Another major cause of stress is dwelling on past regrets. By not letting go of things that may have gone wrong–or even just not as well as you might have hoped–stress increases and new fears are fed.

“If I had only done a better job on that essay”
“I never should have said that”
“I should have spent more time with my family”
“I should’ve never put that much money on my credit card”

These are the thoughts of someone who can’t stop stressing about things that have already happened. Regret about the past can reflect any thoughts about events that you believe should or should not have happened.

How Can You Tell if You’ve Fallen into a Worry Cycle?

Whether you’re concerned with the past, the future, or both, these kinds of thoughts are the source of the worry cycle and the underlying source of your stress. Trapped in the cycle, you may become anxious, sad, confused, or depressed. You might even begin to stress about worrying so much.

Needless to say, it is normal for us to think about future events, have some regret about past experiences and even stress about them to some degree. You can tell you’ve fallen into a worry cycle by the number of times your mind goes back to the same subject and by your feelings in relation to that subject.

If something happens that causes concern and you find yourself feeling uncomfortable and thinking about that same subject more than three times, it’s the beginning of a worry cycle. Once you’re in the cycle, your stress tolerance is lowered and your happiness is severely compromised.

Letting Go of Stress: Break Free from the Worry Cycle

Escaping the cycle of worry is the only way to create a new cycle of happiness. Luckily, there are concrete strategies that you can develop to help you release your stress and focus on the things that make you happy. Like any habit, worrying is a pattern that can be broken. Because the pattern is familiar to you, it will take practice to break free from the cycle.

The following steps can help you to set a new pattern that will significantly reduce your stress and help you to stop worrying so much:

Step one: Pay attention to how you feel. We all have emotions and we have them for a reason. The discomfort that comes along with worry is a warning bell that something deeply important to us is missing in any given situation. Learn to recognize the first signs of worry before they have a chance to initiate a cycle and turn into a stressor.

Step two: Identify what you really want. As we said in step one, uncomfortable feelings are warning bells that something deeply important is missing. In order to start breaking out of the worry cycle it is essential to start identifying what you want in a situation.

Step three: Take action. There is always some kind of action you can take. When you’re in action, you have less time to worry or be hopeless about things never changing.

Not sure what action to take? If you’re serious about reducing stress and are seeking

Create Through the Imagination

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I invite you to come on a journey into your imagination to create a positive dream for your life.

I would like to take you on a creative journey into the imagination. Let your awareness settle down and become quite. Think of your favourite place, where you feel safe and secure. I am going to use the example of a log cabin, which I have visited on many occasions.

In your minds eye start to create the image of this friendly place, which can be either real or imaginary, it does not matter for this exercise. Use all your senses to create the image; smell the damp woods that surround the log cabin, hear the lapping of the waves on the lake outside the front door. Feel the warmth from the wood burning stove and taste the saliva in your mouth in anticipation of the lovely meal, which is cooking on the stove. See the lovely scene in front of you: a log cabin full of your favourite things, the lake surrounded by forests with snow-capped mountains in the distance.

This is a very peaceful place, a place that you come to create and plan. Sit down in the rocking chair on the porch and take your awareness within.

Allow your awareness to dream of anything that feels it will bring great joy and happiness to you. This is a place where everything is possible, there is truly no restrictions, use your powers of visualisation to create a picture in your mind of you following your dream.

This may be a new dream or one you have had all your life. Give yourself the freedom to dream it now in this safe place; it will be different for each one of you. This is a very personal create experience.

Use all your senses and run the creative process like watching a movie, see yourself in the movie playing the lead role. If you like, close your eyes for a few minutes and watch your dream unfold enjoy the experience and bring in all the resources and friends you need to help you with this project. Experience it on all the levels of your feeling.

If at any time you feel a lack or a feeling of fear, allow your awareness to rest on your breathing and take a few seconds just being conscious of the breath as it enters and leaves your body.

Know that you can come to this place whenever you like. You can create in perfect freedom without restriction or limitation. Just give yourself the freedom to dream consciously using the imagination and visualisation.

Then when you are happy with your creation, allow it to melt into the silence of this place, release the dream completely and rest in the rocking chair. After a little while slowly open your eyes and become aware of the log cabin again and the beautiful seen in front of you. Slowly rise out of the rocking chair and start to walk back to the here and now.

Become aware of your normal surroundings and reconnect with your daily activity.

You can return to this place and dream whenever you want just by using your imagination. Have awareness in your daily activity of any opportunities that may come up to help you come nearer to realising your dream.

Thank you for coming on this journey with me into the realms of imagination and the creative process of visualisation.
