The Mystical Nature of Names

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Until relatively recently it was not a common practice to use your given name among strangers; instead a pseudonym was used for public display. It was once widely believed that sorcery and witchcraft could be performed upon a person’s true name in order to control that person or have power over them. The use of given names was reserved for close friends and confidants.

Medieval demonologists believed that to know the true name of a demon was to have power over it. This is a common theme among mystical teachings. Kabbalists are known to seek the mystery of God’s true name, a name believed to hold infinite power and wisdom. The “Key of Solomon” a medieval book of magic or grimoire contains a listing of the names of angels and demons for use in conjurations and magic.

The belief in the power of names is also common among various cultures. Some Native Americans have two names, one of which is never made public because of the power it would give another person over them. The people of Indonesia may occasionally change their names after they have suffered some misfortunes or have had a serious illness. They believe a new name will confuse the evil spirits that brought them grief. Similar beliefs in the power of names can be found in all parts of the world, from Egypt to Alaska.

The tradition of chanting or repeating divine names has a special place in most religions. For example, in Buddhism, the Tibetan traditions place much emphasis on the chanting of mantras. It is said that the heart opens with constant remembrance of the divine. This idea is known as Zikr in Arabic, a term which means “to remember”. It is thought among many religious practices that when divine names are repeated the chanter becomes closer to the qualities and nature of the divine. In Western traditions many families partake of a naming ceremony or christening ritual upon the birth of a new child.

The sense of personal identity and uniqueness that a name gives us is at the heart of why names seem so important to us as individuals and to our society as a whole. In spite of their importance, though, most people know very little about names and about the effects they have on us in everyday life. In a very real sense, we are consumers of names.

Names are largely overlooked in the modern world as instruments of great spiritual power. However, the mystical power of names to affect change in the universe directly has been a long-standing tradition in ancient wisdom.

What can we learn by examining the mystical significance of names? Perhaps we can come to a better understanding of how names can be used in manifesting our reality.

The Pros And Cons Of An Open Mind

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

An open mind is good thing - most of the time. New ideas, new experience, increased knowledge, personal and professional growth, better relationships and an overall positive approach to life are just a few of the benefits of having an open mind. However, there are some pitfalls. Like an open window or an open door in which bugs can enter the home, an open mind is susceptible to litter, junk, lies and deceptions, false information and misdirection. The open mind, like an open window, needs a screen to keep the bugs out. The mental screen is called “discrimination.” It is an attribute everyone has. Discrimination is the capacity to see differences. Like any tool, discrimination can be used wisely or foolishly, for good or for bad. Unless we want our open mind filled with all kinds of non-sense, we must learn to differentiate between what is of genuine value and what is junk. You might say that our discriminative capacity is like an email spam filter. We can set the parameters to filter out the junk and let in the useful information. Generally, what is important to us is considered useful and gets through. What is important to you? An open mind, with a screen to prevent the bugs from entering, or a spam filter to block the junk, is a wonderful thing.

The open mind is also susceptible to a lack of conviction. Too many conflicting ideas can enter an open mind and cause indecision. It is necessary now and then to close the mind, disallow any more input, make a decision and act. Perhaps more important than having an open mind is having a mind that is capable of being open – or closed. We need a mind with hinges – well lubricated and in good working order. The hinges of our mind is our ability to decide. We can decide to accept or reject information. We can decide to consider a point of view or not. We can decide to open or close the window. A home would become cold and drafty if the doors and windows could not be closed now and then. But, it would be awfully stuffy if they could not be opened. We simply decide to open or close the window – or the mind. But, our decision must be made from intelligence and reason, not emotional reactions. An emotionally reactive person would likely open the doors and windows during a blizzard – or close the mind to beneficial information. It’s the mind that remains closed that prevents creative growth.

It’s the closed mind that stated in the late 1870’s that the telephone had too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a communication device or in the early 1970’s that no one would ever want a computer in their home. Charles Duell, the Commissioner of the U.S. Office of Patents in 1899 said “Everything that can be invented has been invented.” In 1981, Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, said “640K ought to be enough for anybody.” Even the most visionary person may close their mind to possibilities. Perhaps there is a bit more effort in keeping the mind open, just as smiling requires a little more muscle movement. But, the results of a smile are so often rewarding – and the fruits of an open mind can be very enriching. Despite the predictions of “experts” quoted above, it appears the mind will strive to be open and will move forward into new experiences hitherto thought unavailable or unreachable.

Ultimately, the cons of an open mind can be dealt with and the pros of an open mind are too important to neglect. As Charles Kettering, the American engineer and inventor said, “Where there is an open mind, there will be a frontier.” Living as we do on the verge of global catastrophes, we need a frontier. We need a vision of a better future, and a path towards that future. For that, we will need an open mind.

One Small Step Can Change Your Life!

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

Step by step guide to be successful in life…

Instead of New Year resolutions which barely last until the end of January, why not try some life-changing techniques which will see you through this year and beyond. Be the best you can and work towards your goals.

You determine what happens in life, you choose your path and only you can change which path you’re going to travel.

Be a stronger, healthier and more assertive person with this step by step guide to finding the new you…

Firstly; set yourself high goals!

You have been trained to think in a certain way due to a few factors such as upbringing, life experiences and relationships and so on.
Don’t allow your lifestyle to be restricted by boundaries that you subconsciously build around yourself. Think big and act upon your dreams.

For example; if you are the type of person who thinks it would be wonderful to visit the Bahamas and then dismiss the idea as something that other people do, change your way of thinking. Make that dream trip to the Bahamas a reality by working towards it.

So, create new and exciting goals for yourself.

Mean what you say!

This brings me to my next step; have a really hard think about what you want out of life? Do you enjoy your job? Are you happy where you live? Are you happy with your partner?

Make a list titled “my priorities” Write down 20 things on the list, put a star next to the ones that are really; really important to you and then highlight three that are essential to you. Start putting serious effort into the top three things. Whatever they are, mean what say, and start implementing a new plan of action. Follow up the items on the rest of the list when you feel ready, in order of importance.

Expect the worse.

Fear of failure is a demon and can actually hold you back-you make bad life choices because of the fear of “failing”. You have to fail at some point before you really succeed.

Look at any of the worlds most successful businessmen and women and you will find they have experienced failure on their way to the top. But they carried on the fight another day – and eventually reached their goal.

Things can go a bit of course at times but with the right attitude you will be back on track.

Don’t be yourself!

Do you look at other people and admire their confidence, their attitude to life or their personality? Do you feel you lack that certain something and it’s holding you back in life? Well, fake it!

You are entitled to suddenly change and be more positive, more outgoing more studious, whatever! People who know you will comment and say things like “that’s not like you” but so what? Change is a good thing and, before you know it those new characteristics will be part of you.

Look the part!

Dress to impress on every occasion. Not suggesting that you go for a walk in the park dressed up in the nines-wear what ever is appropriate for the occasion but wear it with style.

Even if you haven’t got a wardrobe full of spectacular clothes, use the ones you have got to the best of your advantage. Always be smart and well groomed. This creates a good impression on others and more importantly will make you feel confident.

Be confident!

We all want confidence; some of us don’t have much at all. One little trick you could try is to look back at the year just passed- and realize just how quickly time passed by.

Then think about all the things you want to achieve in life-and realize that the race is on!

This little wake-up call might just push you on to be more confident because, without it, you may still hit target- but it’s going to take a lot longer!

The Law Of Attraction Is An Interesting Idea

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

The self-development market of speakers, books, seminars and more, is huge. Does that mean there is a ground swell of people who are looking for a better deal in life? That seems to be the case, for if people weren’t exploring this field, there would be no market for bestseller books and courses, or documentaries such as The Secret.

Over the past years I have read a fair number of books on self-development, but have never really followed through on acquiring any new skills I might have come across, even if they appealed to me. Mostly I suppose it’s been that the effort of working and earning a living had taken over everything in my life. There was no energy left for anything else. For the past few months however, I have had some time to spend on myself, which has been wonderful. With that extra time, I have allocated some effort to re-visiting this topic, and seeing what is available on the internet, the world’s biggest library.

At the moment I am exploring the idea of the Law of Attraction. This law states that human beings attract what happens to them. Because we are thinking the thoughts, we set off vibrations, which make us attract the objects/experiences/events that we think about. This could be as basic as getting a slight headache, of course for people suffering from migraines their headaches are anything but basic, for me it is because I never get headaches, to earning a good living. If we receive life experiences into our lives because we imagine them, then we would need to be really careful as to what we imagine. Taken a step further, it would then be really important to only take on images, whether via TV, newspapers, books, other people etc that will contribute positively to our lives.

That thought takes me back to my previous post on ageism and the article I had read in the local free sheet about the activities on offer in the Golden Opportunities sessions. Computer tasters, advice on back ache, bingo activities for 50 people. What these activities are encouraging is for people over the age of 50 to think of themselves as old and not that capable. A computers taster would infer that the course has been designed to be acceptable to people with a fairly low level of intellectual capacity. A featured topic of these activities is a discussion on backache. That means that because one is over 50 it is automatically assumed that one would have back problems.

Taking it back to the Law of Attractions, this would mean that participants in the Golden Opportunities sessions would end up getting back ache after a few months, whether they had back problems or not. They would attract it to themselves regardless, because the thought is being put into their minds. This is what happens to you when you get to be over 50, you get backache. If you are over 50 you also wouldn’t really understand how a computer works, so we are just going to give a taster. My older sister for instance, is attending a computer course for ‘Seniors’. By the sounds of it, it is a basic course. My sister was a maths boff at school. She could write software for computers if she tried. Now she is proud that she can cut a CD?

Yet there are many people who do extraordinary things way beyond the 50-year cut-off date. A long distance runner by the name of Wally Hayward ran and completed within the allowed time an ultra-marathon road race of 90km at the age of 79. At the age of 76 Nelson Mandela was the first democratically elected president of South Africa. And that is after having spent 27 years of his life on a prison island. These are just two examples out of many, many inspirational people, who accomplish amazing things.

How did they do this? And how do people continue to go beyond what popular belief is the cut-off point to what should be achievable. Could this possibly link into the Law of Attraction theory in that these people have visualised this achievement, have continued to support it in their minds and often in writing or verbally, and have actively worked towards this success. This leads me to think that providing activities to people over the age of 50, which do not challenge them, but in fact confirm their frailties and limitations, is really a very, very bad idea then, or not?

Time Backwards is ‘E M I T’

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

To the manifestation of the law that is no respecter of persons, or ‘the loaves and fish diet’, emission of your 0-100% faith is all that matters, then be yourself and leave the rest to God (be — lieve). When Jesus The Christ, our senior exemplifier, re-activated any perfection from ‘sickness’, ‘lack’, or ‘death’, He displayed to our Father, without whom nothing can be done, 100% faith. NOTHING depends upon ‘time’. Any theory relying on ‘time’ is hereby disproved, and the opposite established.

The diet of bread & wine however, is different, and only those who were pre-determined, just like the actors in a play, will perform their role in God’s plot, as the scriptures correctly describe. These persons, who were called and drafted to lead humanity, had to receive Grace from God in order to be able to UNDERSTAND HIS WISDOM AND ENACT IT, in the same way Jesus The Christ demonstrated.

Only those who have been given the initiation from above (as Jesus The Christ told Pilate) can possibly hold true God-power, the power that cannot be bought with money. They also have been given the understanding to ‘GIVE GRACE’ to all others by overriding and superseding their incurrent situation of lack, ‘old’ age and ’sickness’. However, that is not all they must do. They also must completely forget about themselves, their boils and bruises, and require nothing for themselves, just as the New Testament prophesies, for most of the events there described have yet to happen.

The word evil backwards is ‘L I V E’. Yes, death will be overcome, right here on earth, by re-imagining, or animating ‘dead’ people, because their image never dissolved. Their image, substance, or essence had been created, before the world was. It is here to stay. However, when they laid down their lives, assuming there was ‘another’ place to which they had to go, but right here, where the

o m n i present God

is, and from where He has never left, they LOST THEIR OWN VOICE. They did not consider that God IS the coffin, God IS the mourners, God IS the worms that supposedly eat us. He IS also the ‘consuming’ fire. All commensurate with WHAT one believes.

The Nigerian pastor, whose wife remembered Hebrews ‘and wives will receive their husbands back’, was resurrected before a large audience after 48 hours had passed, upon the destruction of his ‘body’ in a car accident. How? The wife re-imagined him alive. What was resurrected in perfect condition? His image, with his unique likeness (contradicting ANY idea of re-incarnation into another, whatsoever).

Nothing dies in perfection, which should be obvious, b e c a u s e otherwise, the perfect would NOT be perfect.

To ‘BE’ is to ‘CAUSE’, thus the perfect Creator, who created everything in the first 6 days, could only have created perfect images. And, as any (movie) director, He knew the OUTCOME, before He begun the plot.

In the diet of bread and wine, a selection is being made according to spiritual facts. As long as an individual is still not fully aware of God-power and in accordance with this unawareness

(1) Accumulates money

(2) Prepares larger plans for earthly events

(3) Wants and desires to ‘get’ more and more

(4) Thinks of ‘getting’ rich, even though we already OWN everything in Abraham

(5) Believes in ‘elsewhere’, although the bible only speaks
of the H E R E after

Etc.

simply to suit himself, he or she cannot possibly be part of the last generation and follow Jesus The Christ. There is no room for such in the book of life, which contains the whole image of those who advance human awareness of perfection.

The outcome of God’s plot is now in the process of being fully revealed, and will soon no longer be a mystery. Most importantly, the book of Esther will be literally enacted, in a spiritually factual fashion.

The second resurrection is now possible, as the first human has acquired the true understanding of the scripture, and is applying it in the way of Job and Jesus The Christ, by giving grace to all and accumulating God-power in return, to the full degree of possibility and rising.

What would any one give me, when I have materialized Washington, Einstein and Emerson for a quiet afternoon talk of enticing memories? Their ‘weight’ in gold…

The Power of Online Memberships

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Have you ever noticed geese flying overhead, whether that be south for the winter, or back home in the spring?

In Canada where I live, this is a regular sight and a sure sign of the seasons passing.

From time to time, it’s easy to notice that there is a certain pattern to the flying geese.  Often, they fly in formation, in a shape that makes it easier to fly as a group than alone, something that conserves energy for the trip.

Online memberships, when built right, are built on the same philosophy, even though they consist of bits, bytes, pixels and websites and not beaks, feathers or wings.

Have you noticed that things are easier to do when you’re surrounded by like-minded people going for the same goal?

Training for a marathon seems less onerous when you run with a bunch of buddies.

A garage sale seems like too much bother until the neighbourhood holds one together.

And of course, goals become so much more achievable when there’s a coach in the picture.

An online membership usually consists of a private website available to a certain set of people with common interests and goals.

Much like a library, online memberships take on a certain form, often containing resources such as books, magazines, articles, and even audio and video materials.

Premium membersip sites will often integrate a personal touch by providing support from a real person, whether that be by email, help desk or at a discussion board.

At its most elaborate, membership websites can leak over into the offline world, and members who were previously cyber-buddies only meet face-to-face for the first time and the bonds get cemented.  These tend to be memberships that have the most longevity online…they achieve this by weaving in real meetings so the online connection takes on a new dimension.

Online memberships have certain significant characteristics:

A membership site gives your clients access to the information they need, when they want it, not just when you are available by telephone.

A membership site gives your clients access to each other, and the body of knowledge they represent, which can be enormous. The powerful connections that are made are very good fodder for a multidimensional coaching experience for your clients.

A membership site can be demanding to maintain, since new content and material need to be developed to ensure the membership is fresh and up to date.

With more than a million people in the world now identifying themselves with one of thousands of online groups, online memberships are modern ‘tribes’ that are filling the gaps being left by neighbourhoods and even church groups of old.

A Wisdom to Defeat

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Many time in life we come up with problems, from where it looks the end of every thing. Situations look going out of control. Nothing looks coming from anywhere to rescue us. In this situation lies the use of wisdom to defeat. Here I am sharing the story of a donkey. The donkey fell in to the well. The owner of donkey tried everything to rescue the donkey, but every thing fails. On the failure to rescue the donkey, the owner decided to burry him alive. Because the donkey was old and well was also dry. For burring the donkey, he sot the help of the villagers. They all started throwing stones and mud into the well. By realizing the situation, donkey started shaking and jumping vigorously. By this action mud and stone started settling on the ground and raising the level for donkey. Soon with his efforts donkey comes near to the wall of well and jumped out happily. The owner and the villagers amazed to see it. World is also likes that. It through dirt on us, in the time of difficulties. Tries to burry us under it. Telling us that we are useless. This is up to us that how we use this dirt. We can use it constructively and uplifts our life.

This story clearly gives us the wisdom to defeat. In difficult situation we require to use this wisdom and defeat the world. When we are in difficulties, then nobody will come to our help, but every body will try to even produce more difficulties for us. They will through all kind of dirt on us, so that they can burry us. Here nobody can help us. Only way to freedom is using this dirt in constructive way, because there is always lies a unique way to come out of it. Only thing is that we should be able to see it and use it till the end. Many situations like this come in our life, where we are rendered useless. This is actual time of telling the world but we are. This is real test and we have to come as winner from it. The difference between a loser and successful person is very small. Successful person is who fought till the end and defeat the enemies. There is no wisdom in loosing the battle. We are born to win; this is the cause of our birth. Therefore by realizing the wisdom to defeat we can emerge as victorious, with a surprise to the world.

If That’s Such A Good Idea, Why Isn’t It Working?

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

They say that imitation is one of the highest compliments. We see it all the time in businesses. One company comes out with a new product and soon its competition produces a similar product. In our communities we see individuals add something unusual to their landscapes and suddenly everyone has it. Churches, schools, community organizations, newspapers… the list goes on and on… all trade “compliments” as they copy each other hoping for different results. If what other people are doing is such a good idea, why isn’t it working?

When the Titanic set sail, the captain and crew had a plan that certainly didn’t
involve sinking in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. But because of what happened
to the Titanic, subsequent journeys across the Atlantic probably took different
paths. No one wanted to duplicate the fate of the Titanic. Today, however, we live in
a world where people have abandoned their creativity and choose instead to simply
repeat the less-than-ingenious actions and ideas of others. We’ve grown so lazy
that we don’t even think for ourselves anymore!

Marketers recognize the fact that it doesn’t take much to fool us! Corporations
repackage bad products and use clever marketing to convince us they have released
new products. I once sat in a meeting with representative of a large Christian
publisher and heard the employees “oooh and ahhh” when one of its curriculum
“gurus” said, “We want to make the changes in the curriculum so drastic that no one
notices.” (Please pause and reread that statement until its absurdity overwhelms
you!) What in the world does that mean? What the company actually is doing is
repackaging an idea it abandoned about six years ago and marketing it as
something new and innovative. Sadly, few of its customers will see the products for
what they are. I pointed out the thinly veiled return to the past and was deleted from
the list of people to be invited to future meetings!

What ever happened to originality? At a time when we have all of the tools we need
to create new solutions to age-old problems, we recycle old solutions and
perpetuate the frustrations that are caused by dealing with the same things over
and over. We need a plan that will enable us to use our brains to become the
creative people we were designed to be. There is one caution, however. Many of
today’s “stuck in the past” corporations do not appreciate nor desire thinking
people. Trust me on this one!

1. Discover and use your creative time. Even people who believe they
don’t have much creativity can be creative. Morning people and night owls don’t
necessarily share the same schedules, but we all have a time during the day when
we are most creative. For the morning person, that time comes early… probably
6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. For the night owl, that time is more likely 10:00 a.m.
until 2:00 p.m. Think about your day and determine which of those time slots best
represents your most-productive time. When you discover your creative time, try to
move into that time slot the activities that require the most creativity.

When I worked at a corporation, I discovered that my creative time often was
occupied with meetings that were unnecessary because the decisions we were
discussing already had been made by the people responsible for recycling old ideas!
Now, as an entrepreneur, I can utilize my creative time to do the things that require
my creativity. This subtle shift has made an incredible difference in my sense of
accomplishment and achievement.

2. Don’t be afraid to try. Fear of failure paralyzes people who have some
good ideas. Thomas Edison failed 999 times before he succeeded in inventing the
light bulb. Try something new and learn from your mistakes. Allow the experience
of a new solution to inform your future actions. Make note of the points at which
your idea stopped working and use your notes to guide future attempts.

3. Don’t get boxed in with the past. When I worked for a large corporation
I realized that most of the new ideas were nothing more than slight adjustments to
existing ideas that weren’t working. We were never allowed to wipe the slate clean
and start over. When the boundaries of our creative thinking are identical to the
boundaries of a bad idea, the chances of success are slim. Step outside your
perception of the situation and involve people who are not immersed in the culture
in your search for solutions. The way we’ve always done things isn’t the only way we
can do them… except in certain corporations!

4. Carefully evaluate all of the information. Many decisions are based on
bad information that is creatively presented. “Our sales might increase up to 65%”
means sales could decrease, stay the same, on increase very little or up to 65%. So,
the original statement means no one really knows what the outcome will be but
we’re covering our bases with a vague statement that is intended to make people
think the information supports the intended results.

I sat in another meeting with the curriculum publisher as the marketing team
lamented the 25-year downward trend in curriculum sales. The decrease was 3% per
year. That very day, I had read statistical data showing that the curriculum customer
base had decreased 3.5% per year. So my question was obvious–how can more
curriculum be sold to fewer people? My question was dismissed because the
customer data was not a part of the marketing team’s research. This is just one
example of only using data that supports a predetermined course of action. We do
this as individuals and groups… but it is counter-productive!

5. Surround yourself with people who make you think. Our attitudes and
values are the visible manifestations of our points of view. Our points of view are
directly connected to our habits of mind. This might seem complicated but it simply
means that most people never stop to consider why they believe what they believe.
Their beliefs and values are rooted in their pasts–family traditions, societal
expectations, religious values, and so forth. Thinking people enjoy the process of
digging deeper to discover fallacies in their thinking and then changing their
opinions and attitudes in accordance with newly discovered truths. “This is just the
way I am” and “I was raised this way” are code for “I don’t want to use my brain, I’d
rather perpetuate ignorance!” I’d be hesitant to take advice from people who let
celebrities and newscasters think for them!

The bottom line is that doing things the way we’ve always done them isn’t the
solution to every problem. I’ve heard it said that if you keep doing what you’re
doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. Dare to think outside the box… you
just might be surprised at how much fun it can be! Think about it!

Causes of Job Stress and How to Cope

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Most jobs come with a certain amount of stress. Even business owners deal with stressful situations. However, many people deal with high stress jobs on a daily basis. The causes of job stress can be caused from several factors. A pushy boss, demanding deadlines, work overload, just to name a few. These scenarios can cause any person’s blood to rise!

The most common cause of job stress is usually the work itself. Particularly when you are a good employee and good at what you do, it’s not uncommon for work to pile up because you’re the one your co-workers depend on. Sometimes the stress can become so much that you may end up quitting your job.

Depending on your job, quitting doesn’t have to be the last resort if you do like where you work. Here are a few options to consider before calling it quits.

Go Easy On Yourself
Sometimes the biggest demands placed on you are put there by yourself. When you are faced with a huge workload, remember that the work will still be there tomorrow. Do what you can and realize that whatever you don’t finish can be worked on the next day. Easier said than done I know, but looking back, the many times that I found myself stressing at my previous job was caused by me. Many times when I met a deadline much sooner than expected, the project was often pushed back to a new due date for no good reason. All after I placed an overwhelming amount of stress on myself to get done early.

Talk to HR
Large companies tend to have an HR (Human Resources) Department with someone designated to be the “go to” person for any employee issues. You can speak with them on a personal level and share as much or as little information as you need to help resolve your issue. It helps to get your stress out in the open because many times, you are not the only one experiencing stress. Take time out for yourself during the day. Take advantage of you breaks and lunch hour to relax. Also leave work at work once you make it home at the end of the day. Your leisure time is your time.
