Daily Motivation

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

In successful people, motivation is the main driving force. Psychologists and neuro-specialists have different opinions based on their research findings. But all of them unanimously agree to the one generic definition of motivation, which is a mental state that stimulates the behavior and arouses goal-oriented desire in the human mind. Theories developed by psychoanalysts support the fact that the dose of daily motivation in an individual’s life is very necessary for him to excel in his profession and also maintain a good harmony with his surroundings.

The success stories of many millionaires, like advertising godfather David Ogilvy and the famous American industrialist Lee Iacocca is the witness to the fact that had they not got inspiration and motivation in their daily lives they would have not have ascended the stairs of success.

There are various sociobiological theories of motivation which say that humans have four basic needs. The first one is the ability to register the images of the objects and experiences, the second one is the strong bond of long-term relationships based on love, care and commitment, the third one involves a higher understanding to learn about the things happening around us, and the fourth one is the climax of highly evolved personalities who know when to defend themselves and their loved ones from any kind of mental or emotional harm. These theories strongly advocate that for continuous personality development, these basic needs have to be fulfilled.

The concept of emotional intelligence, popularized by the famous author Daniel Goleman, suggests that a person may be highly intelligent yet unmotivated to dedicate this intelligence to many tasks which he is doing.

Today in the United States of America, in the corporate sector, there is an increasing demand for motivational trainers and psychological counselors. Employees and employers need daily motivation to keep them going and help them increase the productivity and quality of their work.

The Abundance Course - What Is It And How Can It Work For You

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Recently, there has been an explosion of interest in the study of the universal Law of Attraction and Manifestation, with the purpose of creating the life of your dreams. There seems to be a definite shift in thinking away from more traditional ways of obtaining the life that you want. For example, sacrificing what makes you happy to make money, has shifted towards a more spiritual path that offers less resistance to manifesting a life that you love. The Abundance Course, developed by Lester Levenson, is centered on experiencing total abundance using a simple yet very powerful technique of releasing. This article is a brief review of The Abundance Course, what it is and how it works.

Lester Levenson, sent home from the hospital to die in 1952, began an incredible journey of introspection and discovered the key to his own happiness. Happiness he soon found, was within himself and had nothing to do with the outside world. By using the power of his own thoughts, he created his own happiness, which is the fundamental principle of The Abundance Course. To learn more about The Abundance Course and The Release Technique, please click on the link below!

According to the Abundance Course, you, not the outside world, are the primary instrument of change. Your thoughts and the way you think determine what appears in your life. Discovering and releasing limiting thoughts that hinder your happiness is the key to manifesting a life that you love. By using Lester Levenson’s Release Technique, taught in The Abundance Course, you are able to dissolve those barriers and then build the life of your dreams.

This self empowering technique is quite effective for making change as it’s focus is on the source of power and change, you and your thoughts.
The Abundance course shows you how to draw on that power to change your life circumstances; whether you would like more money, better health, more peace or anything else that you would like to manifest.

Because the course is not a set of ideas or vague theories but rather a practical method through which effective change can quickly occur and produce direct and mesurable results.

This brief review of the Abundance Course is to highlight the basis of the course and how it can help you gain everything you have ever desired. If you have been searching for a spirtual way to create abundance and have realized that the things you have been doing so far in life to create that abundance haven’t been working, The Abundance Course is a refreshing gift that can change your life.

Increasing Self-Confidence and Problem Solving

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Oddly enough, for many, there is rarely a day that goes by where we procrastinate making a decision because we experience a lack of self-confidence or feelings of self-doubt.

The standards set, while growing up into adulthood, had most of us depending on others - parents, teachers, and relatives - for direction and guidance that set up our self-image and levels of confidence. Unfortunately, during that period of time, we experienced more no’s than yes’s. As a result we either rebelled or we succumb to the expectations of others - looking to them for approval — embedding in us expectation levels of perfectionism and shaping our self-image.

As adults, to function in a competitive world, requires that we be less dependent on looking to others for approval. The drive to win approval, through perfection, sets in motion negative procrastination and a stressful existence. When we drop the notion that we must live up to others expectation of being perfect, we then begin to build our inner strength of self-confidence.

When we overcome the lack of self-confidence and feelings of self-doubt, then problem solving and decision making, becomes second nature to us. True self-confidence comes about by understanding our abilities, strengths and having the willingness to change what we choose.

“Change” is a word that runs the gambit of drudging up feelings from anger, bitterness, hopelessness and pain to happiness, relief and pleasure.

However, bringing everything into consideration, you and me and everyone else on this planet is in the problem solving business - and to be effective in delivering problem solving solutions we need, a well developed, self-confidence. Therefore let me say that living in an economy based on innovation — an economy in which you can win big simply by out thinking the competition — self-confidence and decision making is paramount to success.

Now, let me give you an exemplary example of someone who embodies such characteristic traits of self-confidence and problem solving.

Frederick W. Smith, Chairman, President, and CEO, FedEx Corporation; describes his creation of a central clearinghouse, along with a hub-and-spoke system of dissemination, enabled FedEx to deliver, point-to-point, anywhere in the United States — absolutely, positively overnight. Smith said: “We thought that we were selling the transportation of goods; in fact, we were selling peace of mind.” - Fred Smith’s focus and self-confidence was a force in his innovation and problem solving solutions.

Here are several methods for increasing your self-confidence and problem solving abilities according to Brian M. Alman and Peter Lambrou, Ph.D.’s

** First, identify which area of your life spawns the most self-doubt, the least self-confidence. - Your work, people of the opposite sex, parents, a boss, spouse, etc.

** Second, select which area you want to work on first. Set reasonable objectives and focus on one specific circumstance in which you feel self-doubt.

** Third, go into a state of quiet relaxation to do some inner examination, some self-exploration. Imagine an old situation with someone whose approval you sought, but now imagine a new actions stemming from your perceptions of self-confident behavior.

** Forth, where you had self-doubt, now see yourself with self-confidence giving yourself positive self-suggestion to reinforce the change you want to accomplish.

** Fifth, for your success you must have a desire to change, which comes from within you and should have little influence by what others want from or expect from you.

My Pastor is Nuts-Turning Heaven Into Hell For the Church

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I have felt for years that a minister, pastor or priest, who in fact, has mental and emotional problems, can hide in the ministry for years because his quirkiness, obedience and demands for obedience to “God’s Laws” seems so sincere. Many mental illness quirks can be mistaken for religious obedience and spiritual insights. Leadership styles and public speaking approaches that would never be tolerated in the workplace, are encouraged in the pulpit. A minister who is more mentally imbalanced than spiritually inspired can wreck havoc on a congregation and how often few, if any, in the congregation will confront the problem until it has all but destroyed the church. Therefore…

I’d like to ask the pastors, priests and ministers, you who have taken it upon yourselves to speak for God, Jesus, the Apostles and the intent of scripture, to examine some of this quirkiness that drives your members nuts and harms more than helps.

You who feel you know the mind of God and can clearly see what the Bible wants all humans to understand through you. You Pastors who affect how people think and live their real lives need to find a personality disorder test and TAKE IT.

Since you claim to know all of what God is and does and is doing, along with the truth of every important question about things past, present and future, it’s important that your congregation understand the filter, you, this information is passing through before it arrives on their doorstep. You think you know the mind of God. Do you know your how your own mind works and why you get the reactions you do from the faithful?

Are you mentally fit to lead and speak as if you know the answers that you require those who trust you to keep in their minds? Are you responsible with the monies entrusted to you by those who work hard for that which they send you believing it akin to giving God money to do “God’s work”? Are you prone to tell the truth at all costs, or just your own version of it for your own self aggrandizement? You see it’s really important we know, because history has already ripped the soul’s out of millions for not taking the time to ask their leaders to let them know a bit more about themselves before they got all teary eyed over the “truths” they wished to inflict upon their spiritual hopes and dreams. If what follows sounds all to familiar, the is it not time to ask why?

For example. If you are troubled by…..

Paranoid Personality Disorder

Paranoid personality disorder is characterized by a distrust of others and a constant suspicion that people around you have sinister motives. People with this disorder tend to have excessive trust in their own knowledge and abilities and usually avoid close relationships. They search for hidden meanings in everything and read hostile intentions into the actions of others. They are quick to challenge the loyalties of friends and loved ones and often appear cold and distant. They usually shift blame to other people and tend to carry long grudges.

Symptoms of Paranoid Personality Disorder:

Unwillingness to forgive perceived insults

Excessive sensitivity to setbacks

Distrustfulness and excessive self-reliance

Projection of blame onto others

Consumed by anticipation of betrayal

Combative and tenacious adherence to personal rights

Relentlessly suspicious

Then we’d know why you are so cold to us after a perceived rejection of your inspired truth, or why you get so angry when things just don’t work out as you supposed they should. We’d also understand why everything is always OUR fault and why you think we are always talking about you behind your back. Or if you possess a…

Schizotypal Personality Disorder?

Many believe that schizotypal personality disorder represents mild schizophrenia. The disorder is characterized by odd forms of thinking and perceiving, and individuals with this disorder often seek isolation from others. They sometimes believe to have extra sensory ability or that unrelated events relate to them in some important way. They generally engage in eccentric behavior and have difficulty concentrating for long periods of time. Their speech is often over elaborate and difficult to follow.

Symptoms of Schizotypal Personality Disorder:

Odd or eccentric mannerisms or appearance

Superstitious or preoccupied with paranormal phenomena

Difficult to follow speech patterns

Feelings of anxiety in social situations

Suspiciousness and paranoia

Odd beliefs or magical thinking

Appears shy, aloof, or withdrawn to others

Personality Disorder Test - Personality Test

Then we would understand the tie or holy robes you want to wear and that crown you wear on your head during sermons. It would also understand why we can’t understand what the heck you are getting at in sermons or how you get that idea out of that scripture! Or if you possess a…

Antisocial Personality Disorder?

A common misconception is that antisocial personality disorder refers to people who have poor social skills. The opposite is often the case. Instead, antisocial personality disorder is characterized by a lack of conscience. People with this disorder are prone to criminal behavior, believing that their victims are weak and deserving of being taken advantage of. Antisocials tend to lie and steal. Often, they are careless with money and take action without thinking about consequences. They are often agressive and are much more concerned with their own needs than the needs of others.

Symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder:

Disregard for the feelings of others

Impulsive and irresponsible decision-making

Lack of remorse for harm done to others

Lying, stealing, other criminal behaviors

Disregard for the safety of self and others

Personality Disorder Test - Personality Test

This might explain your cruelty to members, or those that question you, or how it is most of the congregation has been reduced to tears when they question your financial dealings with their money, and why you think you need a ministerial bus for your travels around the country. It also explains why you made fun of the guy who wasn’t able to come to church, and then died at home without you taking time to visit or encourage him. Or if you possess a….

Borderline Personality Disorder?

Borderline personality disorder is characterized by mood instability and poor self-image. People with this disorder are prone to constant mood swings and bouts of anger. Often, they will take their anger out on themselves, causing injury to their own body. Suicidal threats and actions are not uncommon. Borderlines think in very black and white terms and often form intense, conflict-ridden relationships. They are quick to anger when their expectations are not met.

Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder:

Self-injury or attempted suicide

Strong feelings of anger, anxiety, or depression that last for several hours

Impulsive behavior

Drug or alcohol abuse

Feelings of low self-worth

Unstable relationships with friends, family, and boyfriends/girlfriends

It would help us understand why you yell all the time, or are so damn negative in sermons about everyone and everything on this beautiful planet. It might even help us to understand why you disappear on trips for weeks at a time on “missionary” trips, or visits with brethren we have never heard of in places we have to look up. Or if you possess a…

Histrionic Personality Disorder?

People with histrionic personality disorder are constant attention seekers. They need to be the center of attention all the time, often interrupting others in order to dominate the conversation. They use grandiose language to describe everyday events and seek constant praise. They may dress proactively or exaggerate illnesses in order to gain attention. Histrionics also tend to exaggerate friendships and relationships, believing that everyone loves them. They are often manipulative.

Symptoms of Histrionic Personality Disorder:

Needs to be the center of attention

Dresses or acts provocatively

Rapidly-shifting and shallow emotions

Exaggerates friendships

Overly-dramatic, occasionally theatrical speech
easily influenced; highly suggestible

Whoa…then we would really understand why nothing we say is good enough or right and why you make such mountains out of our molehills. We might also understand why you think the whole world is just amazed at your wonderful self…. Or if you possess a …

Narcissistic Personality Disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder is characterized by self-centeredness. Like histrionic disorder, people with this disorder seek attention and praise. They exaggerate their achievements, expecting others to recognize them as being superior. They tend to be choosy about picking friends, since they believe that not just anyone is worthy of being their friend. Narcissists tend to make good first impressions, yet have difficulty maintaining long-lasting relationships. They are generally uninterested in the feelings of others and may take advantage of them.

Symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder:

Requires excessive praise and admiration

Takes advantage of others

Grandiose sense of self-importance

Lack of empathy

Lying, to self and others

Obsessed with fantasies of fame, power, or beauty

PS…How many narcissists does it take to screw in a lighbulb?
Just one, he holds the bulb and the WHOLE WORLD revolves around him!

Well here then at least we’d understand why we’d have to call you “Mr.” and wonder why we aren’t in the group you seem to surround yourself with to our exclusion. They are such special people. We’d also understand why the group gets thrown out every six months and you regroup with a new group of close friend, not us. And we’d sure as hell understand all those titles you give yourself and the exaggerated size of our small congregation. Or if you possess a…

Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder?

While Obsessive-Compulsive personality disorder (OCDP) sounds similar in name to obsessive-compulsive anxiety disorder, the two are markedly different disorders. People with obsessive-compulsive personality disorder are overly focused on orderliness and perfection. Their need to do everything “right” often interferes with their productivity. They tend to get caught up in the details and miss the bigger picture. They set unreasonably high standards for themselves and others, and tend to be very critical of others when they do not live up to these high standards. They avoid working in teams, believing others to be too careless or incompetent. They avoid making decisions because they fear making mistakes and are rarely generous with their time or money. They often have difficulty expressing emotion.

Symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder:

Need for perfection and excessive discipline

Preoccupation with orderliness

Inflexibility

Lack of generosity

Hyper-focus on details and rules

Excessive devotion to work

Personality Disorder Test - Personality Test

Well then, at least we’d understand why no one is ever good enough in the church or tries hard enough to become perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect…whew..no challenge there! We’d understand why you rant every sermon about “God’s Law” and Jesus returning with a Rod of Iron…Heck…a hug would be better don’t you think? We’d also understand why once you make up your mind, it never changes and why you brag about all the work you do for the church. It would also explain both your and our ulcers.

Please print the results in your local church bulletins. It’s only fair since lives, emotions, finances , faith , hope and love depend on whether you really do speak for God, Jesus and all the Holy Apostles, ok well Paul who felt he was Holy Apostle most important of all. We anxiously await your participation in this wonderful service to all sincere humans who want to believe and know the truth of life, death and the eternal future.

Self-Hypnosis - Everything You Need To Know

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Hypnosis was accepted by the American Medical Association in 1958 as an effective system for treating worry, and stress related symptoms. But does it really work, and what should a person look for when seeking a hypno-technician, or buying hypnosis tapes & CDs?

There are many different hypnotic techniques that are used to reach the subconscious mind to invoke change. Each method has its pros and its cons. Everyone is different, so it only makes sense that the best results will be obtained by utilizing the methods that each individual will have the most success with.

Most people who sell hypnosis cd’s and tapes offer products that consist of standard traditional hypnosis techniques. A few vendors offer much more fresh and effective Ericksonian Hypnosis techniques. And fewer still offer NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques.

The most effective technique is video hypnosis. Video hypnosis makes use of the latest Nlp thought strategies to create instant change in an individual. Video hypnosis techniques are not subliminal in nature.

With “Traditional Hypnosis,” we simply command to the subconscious mind. In case you are wondering, as far as I’m concerned, the term unconscious, and subconscious are indistinguishable — they refer to the same part of the mind. This type of hypnotic suggestion works well for a person who generally accepts what they are told without a lot of questions.

Most hypnosis programs sold today are based on “Traditional Hypnosis” methods. The reason for this is that it really doesn’t take much schooling to write a script and just command an individual to do something. Unfortunately Traditional Hypnosis is not very compelling for people who are analytical in their thinking processes.

By contrast, Ericksonian Hypnosis and NLP methods work far more effectively for most members of today’s generation! This is because today people are taught to question everything, rather than just do what they are told to do. So these technologies do work well on people who are analytical in their method of thinking.

While it’s true that these modalities have a greater success rate at reaching and influencing the unconscious, it’s also true that it can can take a great deal of experience to learn how to apply these techniques effectively. So this is a challenge accepted only by dedicated hypnotists.

With “Ericksonian Hypnosis,” we use little stories, we call hypnotic metaphors, to present new ideas to the unconscious mind. This is a effective and powerful avenue, because it usually eliminates the mental blockage of suggestions that is often caused by the conscious mind. There are two types of metaphors, “Isomorphic,” and those of the imbedded command or “interspersal” nature.

Isomorphic metaphors offer direction to the unconscious by telling a story with a moral. The unconscious draws a one to one relationship between ingredients of the story and contents of a bad behavior. For example, if a child is telling a lot of lies, the hypnotherapist might tell the child the story about the “Boy who cried wolf.” The subconscious would draw a comparison between the boy in the story and the child, and realize that telling lies could lead to disaster, so the child would probably stop lying.

With the Embedded Command technique, the hypno-therapist tells an interesting story that engages and distracts the consciousness. The story includes secret suggestions that are usually accepted by the unconscious. For example: While the client is in hypnosis, he might hear the hypnotist say something like: I’m going to tell you a story about a [beach that has feelings. Isn't that] strange to [you]? It’s a warm summer’s day, and the beach [feels great].

The hypnotist pauses, shifts his voice tonality, and emphasizes the bracketed text. The unconscious recognizes a “Selectional restriction violation.” Beaches can’t have feelings. So it’s like the unconscious says to itself: “Wait a minute, a beach can’t feel anything, so that must mean that I’m supposed to feel something, and I’m supposed to [feel great].” Since the suggestions are embedded in a theme that is distracting the conscious mind, its unlikely that the conscious will realize that it has just received a command, so it won’t block it or resist it.

“Process Instructions” direct the unconscious to remember the experience of an appropriate learning experience from the past, and then apply that learned experience to making a change in the present.

With “Neuro-Linguistic Programming” (NLP), rather than using post-hypnotic commands, we use the same methods of thinking that are creating a problem, like nail-biting or stress, to delete the problem. NLP in the hands of an trained and experienced nlp’er can be very effective.

NLP Anchoring: Have you ever heard an old song and had it remind you of feelings from the past? When you originally heard the music, you were feeling those feelings, and they subconsciously became attached to the melody of the song. So the song became an Anchor for the feelings. Now when you hear the song, it triggers the same feelings again.

Anchoring can be a very effective method. Suppose that you have a memory of being commended for having done a great job in the past. If you get back into that memory, you’ll be able to revivify the feelings of self-esteem that you had at that time. If you touch two fingers together while you re-experience those feelings of self-esteem, that touch will become an anchor for the feelings of self-esteem.

Now suppose that you want to create motivation to stick to a diet and lose weight. If you make a mental image of yourself with a thin, sexy body, and simultaneously trigger the anchor - (press the two fingers together again), your unconscious will associate together the feelings of self-esteem to the image of you with the thin body and your level of motivation to lose weight will grow exponentially.

NLP Flash: This is a very effective and powerful Nlp technique that can be used to turn things around in the subconscious, so that thoughts and experiences that used to trigger feelings of stress actually trigger relaxation instead.

The NLP Flash technology is also a fast way to extinguish conditioned responses. For example: If a smoker has a cigarette while drinking coffee, his/her subconscious will connect the behaviors together so that he/she automatically gets an urge fora cigarette anytime he/she has a cup of coffee. The Flash will cause the smoker’s mind to disconnect the image of a cigarette from the cup of coffee so that he/she does NOT get a compulsion to smoke just because he/she is drinking coffee.

With “subliminal” programs, the recording has two tracks. One track contains a cover sound that is heard by the conscious mind. The cover sound could be anything from music to the sound of a thunder storm. The second track contains direct commands that are listened to by the subconscious mind. These post-hypnotic commands are repeated hundreds of times during a session.

Subliminal programs can be played while you are driving or working. You don’t have to stop what you are doing and relax like you do with suggestion therapy or NLP. Subliminals can be used in addition to hypnotism. But Subliminals will never replace Hypnosis or Neuro-linguistic programming because they are not as effective! They’re not even in the same universe!! Some studies have claimed that it can take up to 80 hours of listening to a subliminal tape before it will have any effect on many people.

The last form of hypnosis that we’re going to discuss is “Video Hypnosis.” Video Hypnosis is the most practical form of hypnosis! The techniques used in video hypnosis are based on the Nlp technology, which works based on the utilization of a person’s existing ways of thinking instead of post-hypnotic suggestion.

Over 70% of the people on the planet learn much more automatically by seeing, rather then by hearing. Think about it. If you feel an urge to smoke or snack when watching tv, it’s because your unconscious mind recorded the video image of either food in your hand, or a cigarette in your hand, and then interlinked that image with the visualization of the TV. You never spoke to yourself and told yourself in words to associate them together, correct?

And that’s why the Video Hypnosis method is so compelling. Video Hypnosis is not hypnotic in the traditional sense, relying on the spoken word. But if you’ve ever cried when watching a depressing movie, then you know how useful Video Hypnosis can be at reaching the subconscious mind. With this mechanism, results usually start with the very first viewing!

What Is Happiness?

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

I once told a fellow whom I loved that his love for me was the icing on the cake, but the love for myself was the cake itself! I was supremely happy with me as I was, and any other attention, though most welcomed, I regarded mainly as a bonus, not the main course. He was rather surprised by my statement, interpreting it that I didn’t really love him, but it was actually the opposite. I was able to love him lots through loving me first.

I didn’t always feel like this. My self-love has been a gradual and painful process. Loving myself as I do, I could appreciate him as a whole being with all his faults and facets and allow space for us both to develop as individuals and as a couple. If I were expecting his love to make me happy, we wouldn’t really last too long because one or both of us would gradually become dependent upon the other, clinging like limpets for our happiness until the relationship becomes claustrophobic or the victim of resentment and jealousy.

Someone To Complete Us

I have noticed that too many people seeking partners tend to say that they are seeking someone to ‘make’ them ‘laugh’ or to ‘make’ them ‘happy’. Yet every relationship should have two 100% whole people, not two halves seeking someone else to complete them! We are all seeking happiness of one kind or another. That is essential to our well being. But that vague, yet important, state of existence - happiness - which we often associate with people and material things, appears to be the bane of our lives. We never seem to have enough happiness at all. It seems to be always elusive, even when we actually possess everything we desire. But no one, or any external thing, can ever make us truly happy because happiness is not a destination which we work towards. We cannot postpone happiness until we get that new job, that new house or that new man or woman.

Happiness is a state of mind based on our sense of worth; a feeling which we generate whenever we wish according to the level of self-love we possess and the positivity in our lives. If we feel great, we are unstoppable. It takes little to make us happy because happiness becomes integral to our lives. We feel good about ourselves so we feel good about others and our world. If we feel little love for ourselves, especially when we have not been treated appreciatively, or with any value in our lives, happiness will continue to elude us. We will always feel cheated in some way - unwanted, insignificant and excluded.

Happiness is the greatest indicator that we are happy with our bodies, identities and progress. We tend to see the world as a ‘challenge’ as opposed to it being a ‘problem’. Others can share that happiness, perhaps enhance it in some way, or even reduce it temporarily, but they cannot create or maintain it for us. Only we can do that. We have to feel happy in the first place; we have to be able to possess that happiness before someone else can share it.

Misery Forever

That is why people who tend to be the misery type remain like that forever, even if they feel momentarily ‘happy’ through an external source. Such a state is not permanent because it is not based on self love. It is generated by someone else. So when that person withdraws, the pain of rejection becomes doubly hard to bear and even confirms our ‘unwanted’ state. As soon as there is a problem, or the honeymoon stage is over, we slip back into the old ways of sadness or complaining because unhappy people are usually unhappy with themselves and their world. They will remain in that state forever if they do not make a serious effort to change from within and recognize the magnificent unique individuals they are.

How do you feel inside you today? Is your happiness dependent upon someone else’s attention or behavior? Does it depend on the next event or the next exciting possession? Or is that actually masking what would really make you happy?

Never Belittle The Power of Visualization

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

As the saying goes, ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’. This is especially true where visualization is concerned. People from all walks of life have practised visualization for centuries, at different stages of their lives, even different days of their lives. It is only in recent years that visualization technique has been widely taught in our society; from the business world, learning institution, medical institutions and the list goes on.

Different examples of visualization include daydreaming, fantasizing, mental rehearsals, and imagination. Many of us have often fantasized about winning the lottery, getting a better job, getting that nice physique, going for that dream luxurious vacation, driving that dream car, even staying in the dream house. As said by the Prosperity writer extraordinaire, Dr Joseph Murphy, ‘You can bring into your life more power, more wealth, more health, more happiness, and more joy by learning to contact and release the hidden power of your subconscious mind’.

That is exactly what the Power of Visualization is all about. However, it can be a double-edged sword if it is not used correctly. Visualization can be classified into Positive Visualization and Negative Visualization.

For Negative Visualization, the problem can stem from a tender age or when some people may constantly be inflicted with ‘mental torture’ or told how they are good-for-nothing, a total failure or even the cause of the many problems encountered by their family etc. This will inevitably cause the person to develop an inferiority complex leading to negative visualization, such as performance or social anxiety.

For performance anxiety at work, one will envision himself/herself messing up an upcoming business presentation or fail for a test, even if they are well prepared. In a case of a social anxiety, they may see themselves in their mind’s eye stammering or embarrassing themselves even in such mundane situations as standing in line at the checkout when they are getting groceries

For Positive Visualization, when you have a clear, specific and detailed mental image of what you want to manifest, you can clearly imagine these events in your minds eye. In the area of healing, medical practitioners have taught positive visualization technique to patients in their healing journey.

Allow me to share what my personal friend practises during her healing process for her thyroid cancer. She must ensure that she is in a relaxed state, which puts her in direct access to her subconscious mind. Once she is in a relaxed state, the next steps are to actualize her positive visualization process. She does this first thing in the morning and just before she turns in for the night. They are

Think or state her intentions out loud. Close her eyes, imagine herself in the healing process or which state she wants to be. Watch as her body heals her entire being.Feel the sensation as the healing is taking place. Know that the healing is being accomplishedVisualize herself being in a healthy state, participating in activities with her loved ones.Use creative imagery like seeing the cells in her body healing her; her immune system fighting off invaders; her pain being taken away by healing mud or being axed away. This brings to mind what Napoleon Hill, author of the book ‘Think and Grow Rich” has said, “What the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve’.

With all the literature out there about the Power of Visualization, the many success stories and testimonials of experiences, regardless positive or negative visualization, it has been shown that lives have been impacted.

Famous people have been using positive Power of Visualization to transform their lives for years. These people include Bob Proctor (creator of the program, Science of Getting Rich), Dale Carnegie, Anthony Robbins (the motivational speaker in the movie Shallow Hal), Michael Jordan and Frank Zane, among many others. These people have made huge impacts to our society because of what they have accomplished. We have the ability to change the world as well, but it starts with ourselves. This explains why we must Never Belittle the Power of Visualization.

How To Set Goals

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

The famous motivational author and speaker Brian Tracy once said that if you don’t have your own goals, then you are working towards the goals of someone else.

It’s hard enough to build a successful network marketing business if you are aiming for a target that you cannot see. Imagine aiming for target that you don’t even have!

This article is focused on setting goals around your business. However, you should also set goals around all areas of your life. Spiritual goals, relationship goals, health goals, and family goals should all be on your list. However, just saying what you want is not enough. There is a specific way in which you should set goals outlined here.

1. It needs to be specific – Don’t just make a goal that you want your business to grow or that you want to make a lot of money. You must be specific. How much money exactly do you want to be making? How many sales do you want to be producing? Don’t generalize, be specific.

2. It needs to be written down – Saying your goals out loud, but committing them to pen and paper has real power. Make sure that you are writing them down.

3. It needs to have a time frame – Also known as a deadline, your goals should have a specific date attached to them. You want to be making “X” amount of dollars by such and such date.

4. You must believe it – If you write down a goal that you don’t believe you can achieve, then you are wasting your time. You must get it in your head that you can achieve the goal, that you have all the available resources you need and that anything you need that you don’t currently have will be made available to you at exactly the right moment.

5. Read your goals daily – You can either read them out loud in the morning or in the evening before you go to sleep. It will seem funny if this is the first time you have ever done this, but the goal is to get the goals deep into your subconscious so that all of the decisions you make during the course of the day will be filtered against your goals.

Try to come up with at least 10 goals to start with. If you have never written down goals before you may find this challenging. That’s ok, just stick with it. Once you have all ten written down, then review them daily and watch what happens to your network marketing business!

Each one of these ideas is critical to your success. It’s also a good idea to check out some of the other resources available at mlmachiever.com They have some good articles that cover the basics of building a solid network marketing business.

Staying Off the Emotional Rollercoaster

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

We all experience this one constantly. Be it personally, professionally or anything else, we all know that ups and downs come with the turf.

If we are in a relationship, there will be days when we are flying, when our partners are the greatest people we have ever known, when we cannot believe how lucky we are to have these amazing people in our lives… Then something goes wrong. They leave the toilet seat up once too many times, and we’ve told them how that drives us nuts, or they wince at our driving in just the wrong way, and suddenly we are second guessing ourselves, wondering if we can cope with this exasperating moron one more second, and seriously contemplating homicide (justifiable, of course).

Then comes work. And there are days when we close that sale, or get that promotion, or make a great tip, and our boss is behaving well, and we feel great, and hey, I am lucky to be here, and I could be doing construction so things are pretty good, really… then the next day the boss bites your head off for getting their coffee order wrong, and a customer was just plain mean, and the customer we closed yesterday called to cancel their order, and they complained about us, and suddenly construction is sounding pretty good, especially as you get to hit things with sledge-hammers, and pretend they are your supervisor…

Is any of this sounding familiar? It should do, because life is like this. It has ups and downs. You feel great, you feel lousy, then great again. And, as you set out on your financial journey, you need to know that this roller-coaster will happen here as well. The trick is to never get stuck in where you are right now, and remember the great maxim “This too shall pass”. There are, however, a couple of things one can do to even out the bumps in the road.

1. Keep your eyes on the prize. We have written before on the importance of goals, and, when you hit the inevitable blocks, this is an important time to pull them out. A coach once told me: “Your goals have to be bigger than the rocks you encounter. Otherwise all you will see is obstacles, and then you will give up”. Reminding ourselves of our goals will keep us moving forward, and will help get us around the obstacles we encounter.

2. Do your homework. Often, the key to making good business decisions is to remove the emotion from the process. This is easier said than done, but, if you have educated yourself about your situation, then it will be simpler for you to identify the correct course of action, as opposed to reacting to a situation emotionally.

3. Enjoy the highs, learn from the lows. When things are going well, enjoy yourself, but don’t get carried away into over-confidence, because that is when we make mistakes. We also need to remember that rush when we are down, because it will sustain us through a rough patch. The other question we need to ask ourselves at our low points is this: “How did I contribute to this situation?” We know that responsibility is an essential step towards taking control, so it is important that we analyze every situation (especially those in which we may have made mistakes) in order to learn what, and what not, to do should a similar situation arise.

These points become all the more important as you enter the world of investing and business (and we are all in business already, because we run our artistic careers like one, right? If not, visit abundancebound.com Abundance Bound - Financial Education to change starving artists into wealthy artists” to find out why this is important.)

When you start investing, you will by a stock (for example), and it will take off. You will start having visions of weekends in Paris, a new BMW… and then something will happen, and the price will crumble, causing you to conjour Dickensian images of poor houses and debtor’s prison. This will happen but, if you have done your research and chosen wisely, then “this too shall pass”, and you will cling on when others are running for cover like rabbits in hunting season, and make your money when the stock recovers, while others have taken thumping great losses because they panicked (a very emotional thing to do).

As your business takes off, you will get 50 customers your first week, and again you will have visions of global expansion and corporate jets… only to have them dashed when half of them cancel, and the other half reveal themselves to be chronic whiners. Again, eyes on the prize (which is independence and a lucrative and long-lasting career in the arts), an analysis of why what happened happened, and forward to bigger and better things.

We are all, on some level, aware of this process. But, by consciously focusing on the three things listed above, you will find that the inevitable bumps you encounter will affect you less, leaving you free to concentrate on the things that matter most.
