Finding Time by Taming Common Time Wasters - 5 Tips

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Finding time and staying on track should not be so hard, right? You have your eye out for the really big distractions. But maybe it’s the small time wasters that throw you off.

Common Time Wasters:

You plan to go to bed early, but there is an exciting basketball game on TV. The next thing you know, it’s the end of double overtime and you are in bed much later than you had planned.

You are going to the gym before work but check your home e-mail before heading out the door. You get caught up in reading and responding, and run out of time.

You are on your way to an important meeting in an unfamiliar area. You pull over at the sight of an inviting restaurant to order a cup of coffee, decide to call a friend while waiting, and are late for your meeting.

What Do These 3 Scenarios Have In Common?

Your focus shifted and you tried to fit a new activity into your schedule.

You probably thought you were being flexible and going with the flow.

You may have felt victimized by the consequence.

You have undermined your trust in yourself to follow through on your plans.

Important Distinction: Being flexible and “going with the flow” are NOT the same!

In each of these examples, being flexible would mean making a conscious choice to stay on course or to change it. When you do that, you are recognizing and mindfully navigating the choices that your day presents. This is a very empowering distinction to make for yourself!

5 Tips for Taming These Time Wasters

Make an effective To-Do List and keep it nearby for reference. This is the course you have committed to for the day. When you are tempted to change your plans, ask yourself, “What goal am I putting at risk?”

Weigh the consequences of putting your prior plans at risk before coming to a decision.

Make a list of your own particular time wasters, and notice what feelings precede an impulsive choice that wastes your time. Are you feeling anxious, bored, or angry? What is an effective way to resolve what is bothering you without becoming diverted from your plans?

Schedule a specific time every day for spontaneous pleasure. The more consistently you enjoy this special portion of your day, the easier it will be to reject impulsive choices.

If you genuinely value flexibility, make a list of situations in which you wish to ‘bend your schedule’ – such as helping a friend in need, extra time with your child, etc. and create buffer time into your day to accommodate these events.

Consider your options the next time a temptation crosses your path. Take a deep breath, affirm what you value and have planned, and make a conscious decision. The choice is yours… and each time you make it, you are finding time!

If You’re In Fear Of Something - Put Your Coat On!

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I remember when I was younger some of my ‘supposed’ friends used to tease me about being scared of spiders. They would sing “Scaredy cat! Scaredy cat! You’re just a little smelly rat.”
Now this email is not about my hygiene issues when I was 6 years old, but for the record I was not a smelly rat!!!

But when I think back to my ‘persecuted child hood’(Not really!!!)
I realised that a large majority of us have a fear of something.
It could be a fear of heights, creepy crawlers or public speaking. Or it could a psychological fear, maybe a fear of failure, rejection - even a fear of success.

You can cancel out fear with faith

Faith is like persistence, without persistence you’ll never have faith. So with your faith you can defeat fear.

Your coat of faith

I thought about the coat of faith idea today, whilst getting my son’s ready to go out.
My youngest son was walking towards my car; I noticed he was walking slowly and hesitantly as the February wind was ‘cutting into him’.
He then ran back inside the house and came running out with his coat on. He was laughing and joking with his brother as they waited for me. The coat had banished any fear of the harsh elements around him.

Your coat of faith will keep faith in and fear out!!!

Are you worried about your up and coming presentation?
As you step forward to start your presentation, think about putting on your ‘coat of faith’ and feel its inner warmth. If you believe in it you’ll have the confidence to deliver your presentation.

Worried about asking your boss for that deserved pay rise?
Put that ‘coat of faith’ on before you step in their office, and feel that security of your coat as you ask for that rise.

The people that succeed in conquering fear have put their focus on what’s more important to them rather than on that fear.

Is your coat ready for that ‘rainy’ day?

I hope you enjoy:-)

Happiness - What is Happiness?

Friday, March 31st, 2006

There are many things that we want in life. We want to be rich, we want to be happy. We know we need to gain wealth, earn money and do investments in order to be rich. But, how do we exactly become happy? So, what exactly is happiness?

There are many definition of ‘Happiness’. Happiness is like the highest form of ‘good’ feelings that makes us smile naturally without begin told and sometime laugh at yourself when you think of things that make you happy. It allows the person to be positive and look at things in an optimistic way. However, it depends on your expectations and past experiences. Generally, if something really good happens to us or we achieved our goals, we are happy for a while, then we adapt and it takes something greater to make us happy as we are ‘complicated’ human begins.

Also it can mean the feelings of well-being made more stable by feelings connected to other people by having close friends and/or relationships. In addition, to some people, having a purpose and fulfilling the purpose in life make them happy.

Happiness is all relative, many argued that nobody can be happy all the time, but I believe otherwise. We have a choice to be happy and the decision depends on us.

Thus the meaning of happiness differs from person to person. For me, begin happy is about doing things that I like, without the need to care about anything about surviving on Earth.

Yet, there is a quote “Pursuit of happiness”. It seems that we needs to constantly chase after happiness and pursuit it and one could never really attain happiness. So there is one guy who is so smart to state it during the declaration of if independence that “.. among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

Jackson is a University student who wants to promote and spreads the word of HAPPINESS to the whole world. He believes that everyone can be Happy as long as they choose to.

The Lazy Man’s Steps to Becoming Self Motivated

Friday, March 31st, 2006

I’m speaking from experience here. I used to consider myself to be a lazy person. It took great effort and careful planning for me to get off my duff and become a self-motivated person. To be successful, you must be able to motivate yourself. The steps I am about to share with you, I learned from my own experience and by observing the methods of some very successful people.

Figure out your “why”

Successful, motivated people always have a “why”. Determine what your “why” is. What part of your lifestyle would you really like to change? What parts of your life are you really, really tired of? Pinpoint these issues.

Here is my first list of “whys”

• I needed to spend more time reading and learning
• I wanted to make healthier choices in my eating and exercising.
• I was desperately tired of being inundated by a massive debt load.
• I was tired of being obligated to drive through the busiest traffic of the day and spend the best part of my day at an office surrounded by negative people that I really didn’t care to spend my time with.
• I was tired of telling my 12 year old son that I couldn’t afford the faster racing go kart or parts that would make him more competitive with the other racers.
• I was tired of hauling his kart and equipment in the back of our pickup instead of in a nice enclosed trailer like the other racers had.
• I didn’t want to be an “average joe”, or what I call “the cream of the crap”

Put a picture to your “why” ”

Once you have identified what your “why” is, put a picture to it. What would it look like if you already had the results that you attained by achieving your “why”. Spend several minutes every day visualizing those pictures. Play them in your head like a little movie.

I can see myself pulling in to my parking area in the pit at the kart racing facility with my 1-Ton GMC diesel pickup pulling a 20 foot enclosed trailer. When I open the rear fold down door, I roll out 3 matching karts. All of them are brand new and each has a different style of engine to run in 3 different classes. One runs a Yamaha KT100, one runs a TaG motor, and the 3rd is an 80cc shifter kart. As I peer into the back of the trailer, I see a workbench with cabinet drawers where I keep all my tools and spare parts neatly organized…..you get the point. See things as you wish for them to be.

Make some simple changes”

Start by making some simple changes in your routine. Don’t set yourself up to fail by trying to make sweeping changes that you can’t possible keep up with. Begin small, develop habits, and grow from there. Here are some suggestions that may help you get started.

Drink at least 2 quarts of water every day. I couldn’t believe how much more energy I had during the day after I began doing that. In addition, I have not gotten a cold or the flu since I started drinking water like that.

If you have a pattern of skipping breakfast, as many do, purchase some protein powder and begin to drink protein shakes as a substitute for breakfast that you can drink in the car during your commute. It is commonly known that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There are good reasons that you should not skip this meal. This is a quick and simple way to get some nourishment to start your day right without taking time out to prepare and eat a meal.

Go on a 30 day fast from television. You would be surprised how much time can be recovered by eliminating TV. Use that time productively. It can be utilized much better on physical exercise, playing games with family members, reading personal development information, starting and developing a part time income producing activity, or working on projects around the home. I guarantee, you will feel much better about yourself when you involve yourself in these types of activities than if you spend three hours watching “Wheel of Fortune”, and reruns of “Friends”.

Create a detailed daily schedule (and stick to it) ”

Here is a sample of my schedule for one day during the week while I was still working at my job before my part time business had grown enough to become my full time income.

5:30 Alarm goes off. Spend 15 minutes visualizing success.
5:45 Shower, Shave, Dress for success, Breakfast drink
6:15 Scripture reading and prayer for 30 minutes
6:45 Leave the house for a 15 minute commute to work.
7:00 Job
10:00 Break time – spend 15 minutes walking and visualizing success
12:00 Lunch time – find a quiet location to read training material for business
1:00 Resume working at job
3:00 Break time – another 15 minute walk and more visualizing
4:00 Leave work for 15-30 minute commute home (any necessary errands can be run during this time before I arrive home.
4:30 Home based business for 3 hours.
7:30 Eat dinner and spend time with family (children’s homework, walking, games, etc.)
9:00 Spend an hour reading self improvement material and journalizing
10:00 Sleep

Write down a schedule for each day of the week. Be sure to schedule time for everything that is important. It is critical that you make time to do things with your spouse and your children. Never overlook your physical health, your spiritual health, and your mental health. Sometimes, there are unforeseeable issues that come up which require attention. Your schedule can be flexible, but only to the point that you are careful that you only change it to do something that will take you closer to your goals or rewards. Notice that there is no time set aside in my schedule for television, newspaper reading, or anything else that will not take me closer to my goals. Those activities are an enemy of success.

Start over now! ”

Everything in your life is like it is because of the choices that you have made. Everything you have done to get where you are today is already in the past and can’t be changed. All you have left is the present and the future. You have heard the phrase “Today is the first day of the rest of your life.” Nothing could be more truthful. Forget about the past, except for what you can learn from it. Start over today and become the person that you want to be. Begin now to create the new way of living that you desire. Your new way of life awaits you.

Feng Shui 2007 - The Chinese Zodiac Animal Symbols To Harmony Living-Hidden Secret in The Birth Year

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

In Chinese Feng Shui, it is said that your birth year will determine your character. The secrets to understand a persons’ natural inherited character, from the day he/she is born, is to understand which unique Chinese Zodiac animal symbol he/she belongs to. That is to say which animal year, out of the 12 animal symbols, is he/she born with? The 12 animals in Chinese feng shui are namely, the year of the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, chicken, dog and last, the pig or boar in sequenced.

Often, in our daily life, remarks we encounter like, “why is he so stubborn?” or “How can I get through your thick skull!” is not uncommon. On the other hand, remarks like, “I can’t believe him, he never runs out of ideals.”, or,” what is she thinking about? Can’t she make up her mind?” All these remarks above are common. Have you ever wonder why there are such remarks?

Chinese feng shui can explain why a persons’ behavior is linked to his/her birth year by looking at which animal series that he/she is born with. Over here we are not judging any particular animal symbols. That is to say, there are no rights or wrongs in a person who choose to live the life style he/she desire or the way he/she thinks (moral civilized thinking) that fits his own path of ideals. What we are tying to established is that different people will respond themselves to different ways, to create a balance towards his/her surrounding, and the decision that he/she decided to take can be determine by his/her birth animal symbol year in Chinese feng shui.

Understanding the animal symbols of what it stands for will help us to know more about our character and others character as well. Just imagine, if we can understand his/her likes and dislike because we are able to read his/her feng shui symbols, don’t you think the results will be less conflict and less misunderstanding? We can achieve the meeting of the minds among ourselves.

Just think, if we can understand what others are thinking, to a certain extend, we can influence others or being influence by others. In other words, understanding the Chinese animal zodiac symbols could help to improve our lacking points and further improve our good points not only for ourselves but others also. Knowing the significant of the birth year in Chinese feng shui can help the parents to understand their children’s character and thus guide them in a way that they can improve.

When certain Chinese zodiac animals meet, naturally they will get along very fast and very well. On the contrary, when certain zodiac animals meet, a lot of disagreements occurred and sometimes even frights happen. In business, if we meet certain compatible zodiac animals we can flourish together faster. If we meet certain incompatible animal series, flights and disagreements will occur. Those who understand Chinese feng-shui-2007.blogspot.com/” target=”_blank feng shui and understand zodiac animals in feng shui can realized that such occurrence actually give a good chance to understand lacking points in ourselves and lacking points in others for us to see a better inside of each others heart better. A wonder ancient science, don’t you think so?

Usually a very simple thumb of rules, just for simple understanding but not the whole truth, is, we can use the clock method. For example, place yourself in the 12 O’clock position and mark down your birth year with your Chinese zodiac animal symbol. Than place on 1 o’clock position the following year and zodiac animal symbol and continues till 11 o’clock. For example, I am born in the year 1988. Than I will place the year 1988 on the 12 O’clock position and 1989 on 1 O’clock position and 1990 on 2 O’clock position and so on.

On the six o’clock position, that is, 6 years of your born year, either before or after, you will find that you are attract to this person easily. However, you will also find out later that you will dislike this person as easily as you like him/her in the beginning. You will also realize that, sometime it takes great effort to communicate with this person to get things done when both of you do not share the same common goals. But if you do, it is easily done. Quarrels are common because both share completely different views. Each will envy one another views because that is the one thing you would not do but secretly in you own hearth, you dream of trying it out yourself sometimes.

When you meet a person in 4 O’clock and 8 O’clock year position, you will find them to be very easy going and thus is able to get along with them very well. Not surprising to find that most of lovely couple is 4 years or 8 years apart in Chinese feng shui animal zodiac year. I have personally test out in my groups of friends who are especially lovely couple.

You will also find that when it comes to a person on the 3 O’clock year position, you are easily influence and later regret your decision. Therefore, it is good not to give a confirmation answer at the very moment but give yourself sometimes to think about and disgust before answering. The person in 9 O’clock position will be also influences you but less than the person in 3 O’clock. And therefore, regrets are less.

How to Organize and Store Your Spices

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Nearly every kitchen I’ve ever been in has this dilemma in common. What is the best way to store cooking herbs & spices? There is no simple answer of course. If there were, there would be no dilemma! The thing is every cook has a different approach. Some buy fresh herbs, some buy frequently used spices in large bulk bags. Some buy a wide variety of spices, some just a few. But in spite of all the different needs, here are a few tips that will help everyone organize and store their spices to save time.

Store spices as close as possible to where you use them. If you have a large kitchen where food prep and cooking areas are not near each other, separate and store spices according to where you use them, for example:

If you usually add spices while cooking, store them near your stove, but not so close that heat will damage them.

If you usually add spices during food preparation, store them handy to your prep area.

If you use spices mostly as seasonings when food is served, store them handy to your serving area.

If you have a large quantity of spices, and not much space, consider sorting them by frequency of use. Keep the most frequently used spices handy in your kitchen, and store the rarely used spices in an out of the way storage cabinet.

Store spices alphabetically, just like they do in the grocery store. This makes it super easy to find what you need quickly. This way you give every spice a definite home, and it it will be easy to put away as well. Plus, you will always easily be able to see how much you have of a spice and whether or not you have duplicates. Avoiding duplicates will save you money as well as space.

Arrange spices so that you can easily find what you need. If you have them stacked several deep and can only see the tops of the jars, label the tops. If you have deep cabinets, use a stepped shelf so you can see what you have.

If you buy bulk spices in bags, store them by adding undershelf baskets to utilize vertical space in your cabinets and shelves. Or in stackable, airtight containers that you can label easily.

Think twice about buying spice racks that already have spices in them…how will you add new spices when you want to? What will you do with the spices that you don’t like and never use? These are kinds of racks I often find people end up donating or giving away.

Attitude Determines Altitude

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy
…or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don’t have more money
…or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health
…or I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn’t give me when I was growing up
…or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns
…or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends
…or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work
…or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school
…or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework
…or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me.

I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Have a Great Day … Unless you have other plans!

The Best Ways To Multiply The Extraordinary Leadership in Your Organization

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

Extraordinary Leaders are those who understand that in order for the
organization to grow and make the maximum impact that it can, the leadership
base in the organization must grow first and grow strong enough to hold the
growth. If this does not happen, the organization will either not grow or
will grow and then crumble because there is no solid foundation of
leadership. The effort to multiply leadership must be ongoing and
purposeful. Here are some ways to get your leadership base growing strong
and wide!

1. Get Current Titled Leaders Growing in the Right Direction. If you want to
increase the level and effectiveness of your leadership right now, then the
first thing you should do is start with those who already have a title of
leadership. You will find that many of the people you have as “leaders”
really aren’t leaders at all so you have your work cut out for you! Sit down
with your leadership team and let them know that you are going to be pushing
them to grow in the area of leadership. It is imperative that the titled
leaders get on board. If they don’t or won’t, then they have to go. No
effective organization can continue with dead weight in leadership positions

2. Establish a Plan of Action for Leadership Development. Once you have
decided to move forward with leadership development, you need a plan. I
would suggest a one-year plan of reading and activities. I am currently
taking a group of 17 people through a 12-month (one meeting per month) plan
of leadership development. Each person has to read the required book for the
month. Each person takes responsibility in a given area. Each person will
give a verbal presentation to the rest of the group on an aspect of
leadership. They are accountable to another person in the group for their
development. This is the plan of action. If you need help setting this up,
feel free to contact me and I can help.

3. Identify Untitled Leaders. You also want to identify the leaders you have
who may not necessarily have a title of leadership. Know this though, they
are leading! They are influencing the direction of your company or
organization. They are leading and influencing others. Find out who they are
and invite them into the official leadership process. How do you find these?
Here are a few ways: Notice at your meetings who the other people look to
for their opinion. That is the leader. Ask people who they think has
leadership potential. A few names will come up over and over. They are your
leaders. Ask people to tell you who has the most influence outside of the
titled leaders. Again, a few names will come up over and over. They are your
leaders. Now, get them on board with you!

4. Develop a Culture of Leadership. Call your leadership development group
something like “Emerging Leaders.” Get t-shirts made up. Have special events
for them. Get them involved. Honor their commitment and growth. Above all,
let it be known throughout the organization that you value leadership
development and you are willing to invest in people that way. Not only will
you invest in them, but you will honor them and make it fun too!

5. Enable Leadership Attempts: Let them Try, Let Them Fail. This is where
most groups fail. They will let people try, but they won’t let them fail.
Once they fail, they take responsibility away from them again. Leadership
development must be a long-term commitment and this means you will have to
put up with some short-term failures. As you do, the leaders you are
investing in will be growing and learning how to do it right in the long
run. Those are the people who will grow your organization for years.

6. Establish Mentoring: Watch Me Do, Do with Me, Do Alone, Teach Another.
Get the current leaders to teach the newer leaders. Have them take people
along to do their everyday activities. Invest time in them, developing the
relationship while they see how it is done. Then let them do some of the
work themselves while you are there. As that gets better, then it is time to
let them do it by themselves. Tell them you can’t make it that day but they
can go make the meeting without you. Once they have mastered the task, have
them turn around and mentor others. This way you are developing more and
more layers of competent, Extraordinary Leaders!

7. Show the Benefits: Both Individual and Corporate. The fact is that people
will do those things tat will bring them benefits and rewards so go all out
to show them what they will get from it as individuals and as a group. Show
them that leadership development will help them make more money, have better
relationships with co-workers and have better job satisfaction. Show them
that leadership development will show itself in all areas of their lives,
not just at work. Show them how the whole organization will grow, become
more efficient, accomplish the goals they have established and really make a
difference in the world around them. Show them the benefits and you will get
their hearts for leadership!

Is There A Payday In This?

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

People bring me lots of deals, offers of alliances, and miscellaneous opportunities—at least that’s how they characterize them.

And I have a very simple question that I use to deflate their hype and to bring their rosy rhetoric down to earth:

“Is there a payday in this?”

You can’t imagine how well this works for me.

Recently, for example, I was told about a new company, slightly beyond start-up stage; that is positioned for rapid growth, and it needs products like my audios and videos and “live” seminars as content.

At first, that sounded pretty good, a nice symbiosis.

I have lots and lots of nifty, original content. That’s what I’m good at creating, and if they can distribute it, efficiently, hey, we’re off to the races, right?

Wrong.

It seems they want goodies but they’re kind of strapped for cash.

Actually, what they’re really looking for are investors.

Well, my question cut to the heart of the matter. I need dollars to flow to me on a nice schedule. I’m not sending dollars the other way.

No payday, means Gary can’t play.

The last time I used this line, in an email as it happened, my counterpart actually blanched. I knew it, because he repeated the word, payday, disparagingly.

I haven’t heard from him since!

You should try this line because it puts the proverbial rubber to the road!

In Pursuit of Excellence

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

It is very easy in today’s ‘quick fix’ society to sacrifice quality and give in to mediocrity.

There are too many products in the marketplace that are nothing more than crap with a pretty package, (sometimes even the packaging is garbage) put out by individuals with
false hopes of making a fast buck at the customer’s expense. Unfortunately, everyone ends up losing in this scenario: the customer ends up with a bad experience and they tell all their friends, the product ends up being returned or in the recycle bin, and usually the company in question eventually ends up bankrupt. Rest assured, people who push crap by putting lipstick on pigs will end up fried bacon.

Hero souls are rare individuals who are always striving for more, always striving to improve, always committed to doing better than their best. They are in pursuit of excellence 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To be your best, you have to be willing to do more, to strive a little more, to know a little more, to reach a little higher and go beyond yourself.

Whether you are a student, office worker, entrepreneur, or artist, I encourage you to make the extra effort in bettering yourself and your craft every day and commit to excellence. If you are a student, learn more than just the assigned topic; bring an extra dimension into your research
by digging further and offering more than what is expected. If you are an entrepreneur, learn from other disciplines outside your expertise and research the competition to genuinely improve your product instead of just mouthing, “we’re the best at what we do.” If you’re an artist, risk rejection by putting your soul on the line by grasping at truth beyond yourself, even if you can’t
quite fully understand and explain what lies beyond you.

I promise you that if you commit your life to excellence, now, today, you will separate yourself from the crowd and stand miles ahead. People will seek you out, and be willing to pay a premium for your service or product. Why am I willing to pay three or four times more for a Haagen-Dazs ice-cream or a Starbuck’s coffee when I know others are selling for less? Because they genuinely have a quality product and don’t have to bullshit me by saying ‘they are the best.’ Don’t boast about how good you are, commit to excellence and let the facts speak for themselves.
