Effective Time Management - Top 10 Tips

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Most people know the importance of effective time management. If you plan your day, it is easier to get things done. If you prioritise your tasks and complete them in the right order, it can make you feel you are in control. This can then give you the confidence and self conviction to proceed.

I learnt the concept of Eat That Frog from Brian Tracy’s book of the same name. According, to Brian Tracy, your frog is your biggest, most important task. It is the one you are most likely to put off and the one which is likely to have the most impact on your life. And think, if you don’t eat your frog today, it will become bigger and uglier and more difficult to eat!

So, develop the following new habits today to complete your most difficult tasks, and raise your confidence, energy and self-esteem. Follow my rules to success:

1. Before you eat your frog, you need to determine what it is. Clarify what you want to achieve. When you are clear about your goals, it makes it easier to overcome procrastination.

2. Make sure that your goals or plans are written down and feel the achievement when you have crossed things off your list.

3. Set a time deadline on the achievement of your goal, it makes it easier to measure your success.

4. It may help you to break down your goal into specific tasks, then start on the first step. Small steps each day will help to make it happen.

5. Consider what tasks or activities will give you the best outcome and return on your time. The 80/20 rule may help. This means that 20% of all your activities will account for 80% of your results. If you achieve the most important things, you will get the best return on your time.

6. When you are prioritising your tasks, consider the consequences of doing or not doing something. This will help you to evaluate the significance of the most important tasks.

7. When you have decided what you are going to do, prepare thoroughly before you begin. So clear your desk and have everything you need laid out in front of you before you start.

8. Planning is essential. Plan every day in advance. Every minute you spend planing can save you 5-10 minutes in actually doing the task. Now you need to decide which part of the frog you want to eat first!

9. Know when to seek help. If you need assistance or advice to help you achieve your goal, ask for it.

10. Have confidence in your own abilities. Think back to things that you have accomplished in the past for confirmation that you can succeed.

Spirituality - All Honorable Men are From The Same Tribe

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

I had the privilege of serving as a Marine sniper for two years in the Vietnam War. I was an atheist at the time but I served with some outstanding young men. We’re still friends today, over forty years later. We’ve vacationed together with our families, now with kids grown we get together, we talk on the phone; we are brothers, closer than my own.

What’s most interesting is that we’re all so different. I’m from a town of seventy-five in Ohio. One of my guys, now deceased, was a tried and true New Yorker, from Brooklyn. Another kid an Iowa farmer, a rich kid with an MBA, a rebel from Florida, a kid raised in the Hells Angels and everything in between. There were other snipers in our unit but when each of us came together in the beginning there was something different.

Now you say that isn’t too surprising after what you have been through together. But it really is surprising. We’ve all beat the odds and been married for anywhere from twenty years to me and the kid from Iowa leading the way at thirty-eight years. We had no idea what was going on at the time and really didn’t get it for many years exactly why we were different.

One day about ten or so years ago, traveling with my wife, doing some shopping, I ran across a picture of an aged Indian Chief. Now I don’t know if I am but I was raised with the story that my Grandmother on my Mom’s side, who had passed long before me, was a full blooded Iroquois Indian. I’ve never followed up to prove that but grew up being told I was of Indian descent. So I’ve always been interested in things like this picture, so I walked over and took a closer look.

At the bottom of the picture of this wise old man it read, “All Honorable Men are from the same Tribe.” That hit me like a sniper’s bullet to the gut. All honorable men are from the same tribe? I thought about it. I bought it and took it home where it has hung prominently in our living room ever since. Every time I see it I think all honorable men are from the same tribe. One day, not long after I hung it up, I got it!

I thought of my team of friends, once known as The Rogues in Vietnam. I realized that simple statement was true. When we met, something was different, while we didn’t know it – we were from the same tribe. And as I looked back over my life I could see other, more radical examples of this principle.

One of my best friends today is a Jewish high school teacher who has me down to speak to his history class. We met at a book signing six years ago and he and I couldn’t be more different. He is plain with me and his students, he doesn’t believe in war. He’s very liberal but a great person. We lined up immediately. I was mailing books at our small post office in Montana and I got to talking with the Postmaster, a lady about my age. We’ve become great friends. She was a protester in the sixties and we are on different sides of life on many things but we’re great friends.

The picture on my wall shares a profound principle we all feel when the connection is made. It is true … all honorable men are from the same tribe. It’s not about rigid positions in life; it’s about being committed to something bigger than yourself, something more profound and life enhancing. Open your eyes to a new life, the one you were meant to live.

Sympathy Flower Arrangements

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Flower arrangement is an art. You have to know how to play with the colors of the different flowers to radiate the mood you want to project. You have to know how to cut the flowers properly for them to stand firmly or to fall properly and not fall because they are starting to wilt and die. There are basic forms that florists can follow like bouquets, wreaths, table centerpieces, or basket flowers. But nowadays, florists are starting to experiment on unorthodox methods to arrange the flowers to enhance the beauty and extract the best moods.

This experimentation continues for sympathy flower arrangement. You can see the conventional wreaths or bouquets or basket flowers or coffin sprays. Nowadays, florists offer customized shapes to give a personal touch to the gift you offer to the mourning family members. There are now heart-shaped flower arrangements, and crosses and crucifixes are not so uncommon anymore. Star-shaped or pillow-type arrangements are also used more often.

Florists use their knowledge and their imagination to mix and match the different flowers to brighten the mood of the already somber occasion. It is never easy for you or anyone to loose a loved one. Often, the news of a departed leaves you in shock and in a state of confusion, even if the deceased is not someone you know personally, but someone whom you knew from a friend, a co-worker, a classmate, a church mate in your congregation, or maybe a team member in your basketball group. It doesn’t matter how you know the person, the reaction is the same. Florists use their expertise to help ease the pain of the loss and at the same time be sensitive to the cultural differences and avoid any religious clashes that could occur.

Soar To Freedom

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

Can you feel it? The freedom to live life as you choose? To make decisions based on your desires instead of necessity? The opportunity to live life to the fullest and experience all of the things that you thought were out of reach? Does this sound too good to be true? It’s not!

Freedom is available to you at any time … even now. When you decide to pursue a lifestyle full of freedom, you make a commitment to be successful in your life dealings to W-I-N at all you endeavor. Like everything, it begins with you.

The ability to attract wealth is the starting gun in the freedom race. Why wealth? Because while money does not guarantee happiness, it does pave the way over the bumps that cause many to stumble. It helps eliminate the stress and worry associated with bills and debt, and takes away the shoulds and musts that accompany thoughts of lack.

What follows wealth? The freedom of Time. Does just the thought make you sigh? Imagine the time to do what you would like to do, not what you feel pressured to do. To have the time to pursue a hobby, spend unlimited amounts of time with your loved ones, or to go on a trip or for a walk for the sheer enjoyment of the experience? To have the chance to pursue your passions because you no longer come from a place of not enough money or time? Are you beginning to feel the energy of freedom? Intoxicating, isn’t it?

Next there is health. While good health is vital to the pursuit of freedom, without money to ease stress and time to put good healthful practices into place, the ability to achieve the best possible health is often impossible. Would you enjoy the freedom to have a home gym and the time to devote to training for a marathon? Or the ability to schedule childcare for a session with a personal trainer or to hire a dietary nutritionist for meal planning and cooking lessons. Health freedom when coupled with wealth and time is the most valuable form of freedom there is. To have the freedom to do the best that you can for yourself for the rest of your life, and to help those around you do the same.

What about spirituality? The time to explore your beliefs, pursue them and integrate them into your life. Beliefs, no matter what they are, are important. It’s one of the things that many never have time to pursue due to daily demands and pressures. Something that lives in hearts, but is not allowed to blossom outside of the person. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be able to embrace and unleash your spirit too?

When one has the freedom of wealth, time, health and spirituality, one has what the One Minute Millionaire describes as “Ultimate Freedom”. What does this term mean to you? Close you eyes and imagine a life with all of these freedoms already present. Can you feel it and embrace it? Are ideas for new projects, experiences, and concepts bursting forth? Are visions of happy faces and feelings of contentment filling your heart? Ultimate freedom provides you with all of the core tools necessary to propel you towards your passion and destiny.

Make the commitment today. Put your Laws of Attraction to work and take the first step towards wealth freedom with ultimate freedom being your eventual goal. It’s not elusive at all. You can soar to freedom.

10 Simple Steps to Self-Motivation and More Sales

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

Every day of your life you are selling yourself, nothing
happens until you’re successful at doing that.

We’re all in the selling business whether we like it or not.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lawyer or an accountant,
a manager or a politician, an engineer or a doctor.

We all spend a great deal of our time trying to persuade
people to buy our product or service, accept our proposals
or merely accept what we say.

Before you get better at persuading or influencing other
people - you need to get better at self-motivation and
selling yourself.

Here are 10 simple steps to self-motivation:

#1 - You must believe in the product

Selling yourself is pretty much like selling anything.
Firstly, you need to believe in what you’re selling. That
means believing in “you.”
It’s about lots of positive self-talk and the right
attitude.

The first thing people notice about you is your attitude.
If you’re like most people then you’ll suffer from lack of
confidence from time to time.

It really all comes down to how you talk to yourself.
The majority of people are more likely to talk to themselves
negatively than positively - this is what holds them back in
life.

It isn’t just about a positive attitude; it’s about the
right attitude - the quality of your thinking.

Successful people have a constructive and optimistic way of
looking at themselves and their work. They have an attitude
of calm, confident, positive self-expectation. They feel
good about themselves and believe that everything they do
will lead to their inevitable success.

If you’re in a sales job or a business owner or a manager
then you need to continually work on your attitude. You need
to listen to that little voice inside your head. Is it
saying you’re on top, going for it and confident, or is it
holding you back.

If you’re hearing - “I can’t do this or that” or “They won’t
want to buy at the moment” or “We’re too expensive” then
you’d better change your self-talk or change your job.

Start to believe in yourself and don’t let things that are
out with your control effect your attitude.

Avoid criticising, condemning and complaining and start
spreading a little happiness.

Remember the saying of Henry Ford, founder of the Ford Motor
Company - “If you believe you can do a thing, or if you
believe you can’t, in either case you’re probably right.”

#2 - The packaging must grab attention

Like any other product we buy, the way the product is
packaged and presented will influence the customer’s
decision to buy.

Everything about you needs to look good and you must dress
appropriately for the occasion. And don’t think that just
because your customer dresses casually, that they expect you
to dress the same way.

The style and colour of the clothes you wear, your
spectacles, shoes, briefcase, watch, the pen you use, all
make a statement about you.

#3 - Smile

No need to get carried away, you don’t need a big cheesy
grin, just a pleasant open face that doesn’t frighten people
away.

#4 - Use names

Use the customers name as soon as you can but don’t over do
it. Business is less formal nowadays however be careful of
using first names initially.
Make sure your customer knows yours and remembers it.
You can do the old repeat trick -
“My name is Bond, James Bond” or “My name is James, James
Bond”

#5 - Watch the other person

What does their body language tell you? Are they comfortable
with you or are they a bit nervous? Are they listening to
you or are their eyes darting around the room. If they’re
not comfortable and not listening then there’s no point
telling them something important about your business.

Far better to make some small talk and more importantly -
get then to talk about themselves.

It’s best to go on the assumption that in the first few
minutes of meeting someone new, they won’t take in much of
what you say. They’re too busy analysing all the visual data
they’re taking in.

#6 - Listen and look like you’re listening.

Many people, particularly men, listen but don’t show that
they’re listening. The other person can only go on what they
see, not what’s going on inside your head.
If they see a blank expression then they’ll assume you’re
“out to lunch.”

The trick is to do all the active listening things such as
nodding your head, the occasional “UH-HUH” and the
occasional question.

#7 - Be interested.

If you want to be INTERESTING then be INTERESTED. This
really is the most important thing you can do to be
successful at selling yourself.

The majority of people are very concerned about their self-
image.
If they sense that you value them, that you feel that
they’re important and worth listening to, then you
effectively raise their self-image.
If you can help people to like themselves then they’ll LOVE
you.

Don’t fall into the trap of flattering the other person,
because most people will see right through you and they
won’t fall for it. Just show some genuine interest in the
customer and their business and they’ll be much more
receptive to what you say.

#8 - Talk positively.

Don’t say - “Isn’t it a horrible day” or “Business is pretty
tough at present” or any thing else that pulls the
conversation down.
Say things like (and only the truth) - “I like the design of
this office” or “I’ve heard some good reports about your new
product.”

#9 - Mirror the other person

This doesn’t mean mimicking the other person, it just means
you speaking and behaving in a manner that is similar to the
customer.

For example, if your customer speaks slowly or quietly, then
you speak slowly or quietly. Remember people like people who
are like themselves.

#10 - Warm and friendly

If you look or sound stressed or aggressive then don’t be
surprised if the other person gets defensive and less than
willing to co-operate.

If you look and sound warm and friendly, then you’re more
likely to get a positive response.

This isn’t about being all nicey-nicey. It’s about a
pleasant open face or a warm tone over the telephone.

Before we can get down to the process of selling our
product, our service or our ideas then we need to be as sure
as we can be - that the customer has bought us and that we
have their full attention.

Detach From The Past And Live In The Present Moment

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

In order to make your personal dream comes true, you need to detach yourself from the past. Abandon your belief system and the negative agreements, and live in the present moment. If you live in the past, you will not appreciate what is happening in the present because you will be thinking that the present is something it is not,” Maria Duval says.

You do not have any time to waste with regrets about this thing or that person because you are alive. Living in the past is being just half alive and leads to self-pity, suffering and tears.

You were born with the right to achieve happiness, love and wealth, and the right to share these good things. Do not hold back the life that is expressed in you, because it is a gift. Honour who you are and let each of your thoughts, your emotions and feelings become a ritual of love.

You do not have to know, nor prove what you are. All you have to do is to be yourself. Just take the “risk” of valuing your life, that is all that counts. You have the right to be yourself. To say “no” when you want to say no and “yes” when you want to say yes. And the only way you can be yourself is by doing your best. When you do not do your best, you are denying yourself the right to be yourself.

By doing your best, the habits of misusing your words, taking everything that happens to you personally and making assumptions will weaken, occurring less and less often, and finally disappearing.

You must understand that you do not need to judge or punish yourself or feel guilty. Just abide by the laws of the universe and just do your best! And you will see the desire results in life.

The 5 Most Important Questions and Answers About Jesus

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

I do not claim any special authority or insight for my perspectives regarding the questions and answers set-forth below. The answers are based on my study of the bible, contemplation of the issues and general reliance on known science to support my position, all of which are an attempt to offer a reasonable proposition from which your own conclusions may be drawn.

How can Jesus be both God and Man? The fleshy body of Jesus was man, a vehicle that contained and housed His life-spirit, which was the spirit of God. This is not a radical thought—our mind, spirit, soul—our inner person is independent of our own body. Our body may be injured and crippled and this does not necessarily change the inner person. The exception to this would be brain damage. In this case, our mind would not have the same cognitive process but our spirit and soul would be undamaged. Simply, the body of Jesus was man and the spirit, soul and mind of Jesus is God in the flesh.

How could Jesus be born of virgin birth? This question was more profound in earlier days before man had the science to artificially inseminate a woman with the sperm of a man. Even further, our science and understanding of DNA allows us to clone cells and animals and, one can presume, even a human. Given that information doesn’t it seem rational to think that the God of all creation could easily artificially inseminate Mary? The New Testament says:

Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the Most High shall overshadow thee: wherefore also the holy thing which is begotten shall be called the Son of God

Mary, Jesus’ mother was a descendant of King David and was simply an incubator to serve the mechanical function required to give birth to Jesus in this world.

Why did Jesus have to be born of virgin birth? Jesus had to be born a virgin birth to be free of the "original sin" of Adam and Eve when they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. From that sin all mankind inherited a sin nature and a natural inclination toward sin. Through that one sin, that single act of unrighteousness of Adam, death came to all men. In order for Jesus to be free of this natural inclination toward sin inherited by human flesh, He needed to be born of the same flesh God created for the original Adam, which was originally free from the corruption of sin. The very act of procreation is initiated by some degree of lust (which is technically a sin of the flesh) and would have only provided a cursed and corrupt body for Jesus to inhabit and that is unacceptable. God needed to create Jesus as the "second Adam" who would be free from the curse of human flesh to give Jesus a fighting chance against Satan. There was no guarantee that Jesus would not fall into temptation by Satan when He came to earth—there was risk involved. In order to give Jesus a fighting chance at defeating Satan, He needed a body that was not predisposed to sin. This is why a virgin birth was required.

How could Jesus come back from the dead? This is tough for most people and it is easier to understand than what you may think. First, the premise is that God, the creator of the heavens and the earth, raised Him to life. Theoretically, this would be a snap for the creator God, right? Secondly, when Jesus was killed on the cross, it was early spring and his body was put in a tomb. The tomb was built into the side of a hill where the room temperature was very cool due to the time of year and the construction of the tomb. The tomb was cool enough to slow and prevent the molecular process of the body, preserving the cell structure from decay during the three days Jesus was dead. This is line with the Old Testament prophecy of David in Psalms:

Psalm 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul to Sheol; Neither wilt thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption.

Jesus fulfilled this prophecy by dying, not decaying and being resurrected by God.

Why was Jesus necessary for God to redeem man and forgive us our sins? Adam sinned and God told him he was going to die for this single act of unrighteousness. Not only was Adam going to die but all humans would die as a result of his sin. As a result, we have all inherited a sin nature, a bent toward sin. Everybody has broken one of the Ten Commandments at some point in their life and is guilty under the law and the penalty is death. We cannot defeat this law of sin ourselves. There was only one acceptable sacrifice that God could accept to remedy the problem of sin in the human race. The only sacrificial payment that would cover the price of sin was the death of God’s only son. By sending Jesus to earth in the form of man, Jesus was in fact a new Adam, a second chance for a man to live righteously before God and resist the devil to the point of death. Jesus was successful in His mission. Just as death came to all people through the single act of unrighteousness of Adam, so life came to all men through the single act of righteousness of Jesus Christ. By his sacrificial death Jesus paid the price of the penalty of sin. The price of sin was the terrible death of God, the son, on the cross.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.

There is no other way for you, your friends or your family to be saved from eternal death other than by believing that Jesus came to earth, died for your personal sin, was resurrected by God and is alive in heaven.

If you do not accept this message or if you reject this message your future is certain. Many people reject the message and do not believe Jesus is who He claimed to be. God loves you so much that He gave you the right to choose…

But there is no cost to accept the gift of life through Jesus—it’s free. All you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your life. If you have a hard time believing, tell God you don’t believe and ask Him to help you with your unbelief. He will help you…he will lead you to understanding

To Attract, You Have to be Attractive

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

I have always been a proponent of the Law of attraction. If we want to attract easily and effortlessly then we have to have the right mindset. We have to get into a state where we feel that everything we touch turns to gold. Yes we’ve all been there. We all have felt it… when we’re in love or making love, when we’re listening to music we love, when we’re so happy, when the team we support is winning. We feel unstoppable! we’re tapping into our higher power. Some people feel that way when confronted with fame, power or money.

Any influence that will temporarily or permanently increase the intensity of thought is a mind stimulant says Napoleon Hill and the feelings of love remove the obstructions between our finite mind and infinite intelligence ultimately releasing our genius potential. When we’re like that people tend to hang on to our every word and do our bidding… because we have so much love to share and they pick up on our vibrations. Thats when we’re attractive… and we’re attracting!

The idea is to get into that state as often as possible… think only and speak in the language of the subconscious mind… the language of emotions.

Yes, that is the only language the subconscious mind understands… The emotions of Faith, Desire, Love, Sex, Enthusiasm, Romance and Hope. These emotions excite the subconscious mind and put us in the right vibration to attract. The emotions of Fear, Jealousy, Envy, Hatred, Revenge, Greed, Superstition and Anger block our ability to attract. Hill reminds us that positive and negative emotions cannot stay in the mind at the same time. One or the other must dominate. So we must always strive to stay with the emotion of love until it becomes a habit.

One single negative thought is enough to block all aid from the subconscious mind.

What is Social Anxiety?

Monday, August 29th, 2005

Social anxiety, also sometimes known as social phobia, is a condition in which you experience high levels of anxiety about being criticised by or judged in a negative way by others. Surveys have suggested that as many as 10% of people may suffer from the condition, although it was not commonly recognised as a form of anxiety disorder until the 1980s. If you suffer from social anxiety then you may experience some or all of the following:

Extreme worry in public places such as at meetings, work or when shopping that other people will be watching you and finding fault with you

Severe feelings of inferiority or inadequacy and a sense that other people are more intelligent than you or that you have nothing to say to them that will be of valueFear of going into a situation where you are expected to contribute to a discussion or give a presentationExtreme sensitivity to criticism from othersPhysical symptoms such as sweating, blushing, stammering or shaking when thinking about having to take part in a situation about which you are nervous.Perfectionist tendencies – believing that unless you to do something perfectly you have failedWhat can you do to if you suffer from social anxiety?

There are a number of steps which you can take if you suffer from social anxiety to help you gradually gain control of your situation so that the negative feelings and experiences you have will diminish:

One thing that can be useful is to learn some relaxation techniques, for example

Help to bring your body and mind more regularly into a state of relaxation and calm by practising simple relaxation exercises, ideally on a regular basis to establish a steady relaxing routine at least in part of your life. For example you might begin each morning by spending 10 minutes in a comfortable environment doing a breathing exercise. One of the recommended ways to practise breathing is to do what is called diaphragmatic breathing, as follows: Place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Breathe in through your nose slowly, allowing your stomach to swell, pushing out the hand that is resting on it and then gently exhaling to allow your stomach to subside. If the hand on your chest is moved by your breath rather than the hand on your stomach then you are not breathing through your diaphragm, so practise again until it is the stomach which moves. Count your breaths one by one as you breathe in and out.Practise a similar short breathing exercise at times when you are feeling anxious or before going into a situation which you dread.Cognitive behavioural therapy or coaching can also be helpful in teaching you techniques which you can practise to deal with the negative and anxious thoughts which are leading you to become worried and stressed. For example, if you suffer from social anxiety you might have a tendency to mind read – that is to say, you imagine what other people will think (imagining that they will think something negative about you). Try writing down these thoughts prior to going into the problematic situation and then write down some alternative thoughts that you might say to yourself to counter the mind reading thoughts.

For example, if you are going into a social situation where you are meeting people you do not know, you might have the thought: They will see that I am stupid and will laugh at me. Write this down and then next to it write something that you can say to challenge or question this thought in a realistic way. For instance, you might write down the following challenge: Some people there will be more concerned with their own problems to notice, even if I do say something stupid, and others may be sympathetic.

When you go into the situation remind yourself of that challenge to help you get through the situation.

This is just one of numerous techniques you can use to help yourself in difficult situations. At first they may seem artificial or you may find it difficult to believe the new thoughts you are trying to teach yourself. This is normal. You are retraining your mind to think in a different and more constructive way. Try to take things patiently, step by step, and if you need support seek help from a coach specialising in this particular area.

Daily Meditation Hebrews 12:25-29

Monday, August 29th, 2005

See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape who turn away from Him who warns from heaven.
And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.”

This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain strong.
Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show our gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;
for our God is a consuming fire

In past times God had sent his prophets to teach the people to repent and return to God. Now God has sent his Son that we may repent and be saved. Christ is at the right hand of God and is working on our behalf. Soon he will return to Earth to shake up not only the peoples, but all of the nations (heaven in scripture denote ruling powers) so he can establish His righteous and just rulership once and for all. May God be praised that he is faithful to his promises, and will surely bring Christ’s kingdom to Earth. Let us all share the hope within us so that the Glory of God be magnified.
